Description
Hi, I'm Lauren and I live with my partner Olivia on a beautiful tropical rural block in Mataranka, Northern Territory. We have some large organic food gardens and fruit trees and run a small accommodation business close to tourist attractions like the famous thermal springs and fishing hotspots like the Roper River.
We run a small artist and writer's residency throughout the year and encourage people to bring their own projects to work on while they stay. I run a not for profit community development program installing solar projects in remote Indigenous communities in the region, and Liv is a writer involved in a community owned publishing cooperative.
We both speak English and Liv speaks Italian, French and some Arabic. We are well travelled and curious to learn from other cultural and travel experiences and adventures in general. We are politically active in many projects and movements for racial, environmental and social justice and our home is LGBTIQ-friendly. We are committed to the return of stolen land worldwide - from this continent to Palestine - and actively encourage visitors to engage in critical reflection on how they are contributing to these calls for justice from First Nations people and communities.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Mataranka is a stunning tropical paradise with alot to offer travellers wanting a genuine and rewarding experience in remote and outback Australia and the Northern Territory. There are lots of opportunities for cultural exchange with local Indigenous communities, and we are well connected across the Territory with other communities and workaway opportunities and could assist with linking you up with other networks and work during your travel.

Help
Alongside assistance maintaining and managing the food and fruit gardens we have a number of ongoing building projects on the property including construction in steel, timber and general woodworking, plumbing, mechanical repair and building renovation going on. We would love help on any of these activities.
At the moment we are most in need of workawayers with experience in trade skills including woodworking/carpentry and metalworking, electrical, painting or plumbing.
Travellers with other skills and experiences are more than welcome to get in touch. Workaway engagements are mostly on a voluntary basis, usually exchanging 4 hours per day labour for accommodation and meals.
We welcome travelers who are interested in staying in the Mataranka region for a minimum of a week. For the right person with a background in renewable energy or community development we could be interested in having you join our team on community energy projects too.Languages
