To introduce ourselves, we are Sheila and Andrew and we are situated in the tiny town of Lac La Hache, in the heart of the Cariboo, British Columbia Canada.
Our coffee bar has been open since November 2018 and is steadily growing in popularity. The coffee side of the business has been added to compliment the Argentium silver jewelry that Sheila designs and makes here on site. The gallery exhibits art from BC only, the majority of it is made within five kilometers from the gallery. World class sculptures, hand made cigar box guitars, abstract and realism paintings, hand crafted wood ducks, maple syrups, inlaid trinket boxes and jams.
Our property of seven acres is ten km north of Lac La Hache township is where we require help the most. The property backs onto Crown land which enable you to walk the trails in the bush for ever!!
The cabin there needs love and some maintenance inside and out.
The projects for next year (maybe the last few weeks of this year) are wrapping the entire building with breathable vapor barrier. roto-tilling the small 'grassy' area next to the house and raking the top soil out to level the ground. Fire wood gathering and splitting. Painting the front of the building. Our veggie patch is in now and will need tending as well.
UPDATE!! We have realized that around thirty trees very close to the house need to go, due to falling and destroying it!!!! Should you be an arborist or climbing tree feller we have a small slice of paradise for you to play in!!
The accommodation is a private double room at one end of the cabin, and a walk through double bedroom, give sleeping for four persons. While there is no lounge room, there is seating around the kitchen table. And ample space in the joey shed should it not be pleasant to sit outside. While we do not have internet at the cabin we do at the coffee bar, where it is swift and plentiful.
Help in the house
There is a lot of recreational activities to be had in the southern Cariboo region if you enjoy viewing wildlife, fishing, biking, boating, hiking or swimming in one of the plethora of lakes within an hour from here.
We hope that we can offer a vehicle for your use, that will also depend on your legality to drive in Canada.
Mount Timothy, our ski hill is set to open this coming season and the new owners hope to have summer activities such as mountain biking and hiking. More about the developments on the mountain will be posted as we find out about them.
Painting and ground clearing are paramount tasks on the property. While nothing will be too heavy or high to be unsafe for any work-a-way participant, there will be a fair amount of said ground clearing around the cabin. Raking and collecting your fire wood to sit round and gaze into while you enjoy your supper would not really feel like chore! (Unless a fire ban is in force).
A future idea we hope to achieve is to grow vegetables on the property, when the essential tasks have been completed it could be an interesting project for the right minded person. We envisage maybe raised beds which could be easily tended without backache, and protection from the opportunist wildlife that would eat your hard work!
The Cabin offers a kitchen with all the usual amenities, there you can cook your own food if you prefer. If it suits everyone we may suggest we come up and cook an evening meal for all. So we can enjoy some time together.
We would either give you an allowance for food or provide and cook food as mentioned. We mostly eat vegetables and local fish, if anyone wants meat to eat we can include it into the meals.
PLEASE NOTE, due to a recent incident we have to say we CAN NOT except any smokers.
A grass fire resulted from a discarded cigarette end.
A five minute walk under the highway will take you to the only public beach on the lake where a boat launch and grassy picnic areas allow you to take the waters of Lac La Hache. Good fishing can be had to while away an afternoon!
