Our home and design business, are connected in the same location. It is a renovated building supply store in a rural village in Eastern Ontario.
Our designs include elements of sustainability as it relates to caring for the earth and being resourceful. Hans is a restoration architect, Carolyn a designer using tires and other discarded materials. Together we live and work in and around our studio/gallery.
Visit our website for a thorough look into our work and design philosophy.
Volunteers are expected to bring artistic interests and abilities to work here.
You will have access to many types of tools and materials and have the opportunity to learn many skills. You are required to make your own breakfast and lunch with food available. Dinner is prepared and shared together. We expect our volunteers to help out with day to day chores such as dishes, cleaning and maintenance.

Travelers will experience rural Canadian life, especially the landscape. Tamworth is a village surrounded by farms on the edge of the infinite wilderness. It is the gateway to Land O'Lakes, a region of Ontario known for 5,000 lakes. Volunteers will learn to live in a creative environment, be self motivated and explore their artistic and fabricating skills guided by artists and designers.
Our work varies every day. Some work could include painting, sewing, woodwork/fabrication and just about anything in the arts/crafts or design work.
It takes a few days together to understand the interests and abilities of our volunteers before we set you up with a project. Most work is done independently.
We also expect volunteers to assist with domestic chores like dishes, prepare their own breakfast and lunch and generally keep the place organized and clean.
We have a comfortable spare bedroom inside our home. It has a double bed. No smoking in the house or studio. We also have another property by the Salmon River in the same village that a volunteer can camp on.
Transportation can be assisted with between our village and Kingston, Ontario. You can bike, swim and hike in our area of lakes, rivers and wilderness close by.
