Based in rural southern France, about 40 minutes from Bordeaux and in the heart of the wine producing region, Chateau is a Napoleonic chateau. The chateau is in need of help with restoration and renovation and we are happy to work with workawayers on a cultural exchange.
Our home also hosts a number of pets - both inside and outside of the chateau. We have dogs, cats, a parrot, chickens, goats and some beautiful peacocks that roam the grounds, helping to make Chateau a unique destination for traveller and staff alike. The chateau also boasts a swimming pool, a natural lake for swimming complete with paddle board and two professional standard tennis courts for those keen on keeping fit.
Help in the house
The family is an English speaking family, based in rural France, so you would have the opportunity to improve both your French and English language skills. You would also be taught the skills necessary for restoring nineteenth century leather wallpaper, as well as more general painting and other skills.
We need help with helping restore the more delicate parts of the chateau, to protect it for future generations. We need help with general labouring with rebuilding an important part of the chateau - the stable block, in order to restore the beauty that was originally there. Travellers would be taught all skills needed, but any building or artistic skills would be an advantage.
French, English, Polish
Workawayers would have their own bedroom and bathroom within the chateau. Food will be provided, and we tend to eat as a family.
The area is very rural so it is recommended that you have your own transport, but we can collect you from the nearest train station if you would prefer. There are plenty of vineyards to visit, as well as Bordeaux, Angouleme and Cognac all being less than an hour away from the Chateau. The chateau has wifi for residents. There is a restaurant and shop within easy walking distance, as well as a bakery.
