*️️*️️*️️Update: We are currently taking volunteers but ONLY volunteers with previous experience in Permaculture/Gardening that can be self-directed at times, as we are not always at the farm, and if volunteers want to stay and play (aka work) on the farm, they must be confident in what they are doing.*️️*️️*️️

*️️*️️*️️This July 15-30 we will not be hosting volunteers as we are running a Permaculture Design Certification Course *️️*️️*️️

We are a small permaculture/organic farm located in the eastern region of Bali. Our farm consists of 50% rice terraces, 50% fruits, perennial crops, herbs, & vegetables. We are the first to recieve water from a spring fed source and so our produce is not tainted by water runoff from other farms.

Since there is not always someone there to manage the farm, we have shifted our focus away from cultivating as many high-maintenance annual vegetables (lettuce, carrots, etc..) to cultivating more long-term self-reliant and perennial crops like ginger, cassava, taro, sweet potato, moringa, fruit trees (avocado, soursop, durian, guava, ect.), banana, papaya, edible and medicinal herbs/shrubs, etc. Basically we grow the things that work really really well with our site, our particular micro-climate, and the tropical climate in Bali. This is a very Permaculture approach of going "with the grain"

The farm is near Tirta Gangga Water Palace. We have a house up the hill from the garden with 3 bedrooms, so we can host either 3 individuals at a time, or 3 couples (6 people). There is a kitchen and you can harvest food from the garden, or eat for very low cost at the local "Warungs" (restaurants).

The farm is tended by two local Balinese and a long-term volunteer. The communication is mainly in Bahasa Indonesian & English, it would be great for you to work with the locals and learn the language...and help them with their English!

The farm is located in a cultural hotspot of Bali, on the road to Amed, and there are many opportunities to connect with locals and travelers alike.

    Accommodation

Private rooms are provided at the volunteer house a short distance from the farm. Volunteers are required to cover their personal expenses as well as meals. The local warungs cater to vegetarian & non-vegetarian, local & international cuisine. A filling meal can be purchased from 15,000 IDR (approx. $1) The house has a functioning kitchen in case you'd prefer to cook for yourself. Hot water showers. Depending on the time of year, there may be fresh produce for volunteers to harvest for personal use.

There is no WiFi at the volunteer accommodation but there are many warungs and restaurants within walking distance which provide fast & reliable internet.

Volunteers are expected to maintain a clean living space and clean-up after themselves when finished in the shared areas of the house.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your time off you can visit the local attractions and walk throughout the scenic regions that surround us. There is a water garden with a spring fed swimming pool located near to us which is a great way to cool off after some hours work. We are 30 mins driving from Amed. Having a means of transportation is beneficial, but if not there are local mini-vans/buses operating throughout the day. Walking is by far the most satisfying mode of transport in the area as you will discover enchanting rice fields & warm-communities open to connecting with travellers.

We would ask that volunteers stay a minimum of 2 weeks.
