    Description

I live in Crete and me and my partner have a ruin house we are trying to restore ourselves. We need help with various tasks with this from bashing down walls/unstable roof, plastering, digging, carrying crates of rubble and bricks etc.

I work online for the organisation I set up with my friend and am between here in the UK with this.
It's a survivor-run organisation that changes systems, creates new structures, dismantles rape culture and supports survivors. It is an educational platform, a mutual support space, a basic accessible fund for survivors of rape and sexual violence and a campaign.
I also volunteer with Detention Action doing advocacy and emotional support for people in detention centres in the UK. So I'm often quite busy with that.

My parter Phil has two children (7 and 10) who he co-parents and are around half the time.

I am renting my own flat where you will stay, which is 1 minute away from the ruin house and 2 minutes away from Phil's flat. If there are one - two of you you will have my living room (there are two mattresses) If more then my bedroom has a double bed so if there's a couple/ more of you then you can stay there too and I will be at my partners round the corner.

It's a tiny Greek village and apart from us (I'm from the UK) it's all locals living here. (Phil is half Greek - from his Dad - but grew up in Newcastle).

I'm learning Greek, Phil speaks Greek.

We are happy to show you beautiful places around here or teach you vegan cooking and greek dishes.

Phil's dad was from the island and has been fully accepted into the local culture (in ways even those from Greece but outside the island are not). From foraging local greens, mushrooms etc, to an intimate knowledge of local ways you can get a glimpse of a traditional life that is unaccessible otherwise, whether staying with a local who does not get your culture or staying with a foreigner/expat who does not have the integration and local acceptance. It's an opportunity to to experience Crete and some of Cretan life in a way that's not usually possible.

Me and my partner have a house that we are trying to restore/renovate/build.
We need to do things like bash down walls, plastering, digging, carrying crates of rubble and bricks etc.

Whilst experience is obviously invaluable, you don't need to have experience in any type of DIY/manual labour - more important to us is that you are able work fast and enjoy getting stuck in to things that might be heavy work (like carrying crates of bricks and rubble/going up and down ladders etc.)
We want people that would enjoy getting on the buzz of bashing out some hours of work with us in the morning or early evening (I like to see it as a full body workout) then enjoy the bliss of Crete this time of year, with empty beaches and wild landscapes.

Occasionally I can do with some admin help with my project. If I was in one of those spaces you could have an option to choose to help on that for a bit rather than the house. It's basic admin stuff, so no experience necessary, just a desire to support people who have experienced harm.

You can have time to yourself to explore or/and also we can take you to beaches and beautiful places we love. We are in a gateway village to some of the most serene coastline on Crete. The village is a on a spectacular mountainside. There could be

We will provide you with food (I am a chef so you will be fed well). We are vegan but if you want to try the local cheeses/dairy/eggs we will get you some lovely products from farms near by. We will cook for you, share meals together or provide cooked food. If you prefer/at times if you want to cook for yourself (I have a lovely kitchen) we will provide you with ingredients to cook.

You will be staying in my flat (1 bedroom, 1 living room, kitchen, giant garden) which is 1 minute away from the ruin house and 2 minutes away from Phil's flat. If there are one - two of you you will have my living room (there are two mattresses) and I will be there some of the time and some of the time at Phil's.

If more of you then my bedroom has a double bed so if there's a couple and more of you then you can stay there too and I will stay at Phil's around the corner.

It is in a village with on tiny shop and a 4-5 coffee houses that serve drink and snacks but there's not much around here either than nature. It is in the mountains so there are beautiful walks near by. The nearest beach is 18 min drive away. If anyone is going down you can come or be dropped there. We try to go to the beach most days. The beaches here are beautiful.
Spili is 10 min drive away where there are a few more shops and two small supermarkets. There is a market here in Friday where we get our vegetables.

We have decent internet connection, I run zoom conferences and workshops from the flat you'll be staying in. 1-3 times a year there can be a signal loss for up to a day. In this case if we have something vital on we can get to somewhere to facilitate necessary connection.
