Description
Welcome to our small and peaceful home nestled in nature near Coimbrão, on Portugal’s beautiful west coast 🌿
We are a retired international couple who enjoy sharing a calm, meaningful lifestyle close to the ocean, forests, and traditional village life.
Our home is located just 10 minutes from the beach and surrounded by pine forests, sand dunes, and hiking trails in the Pinhal de Leiria. Nearby you’ll find cozy coffee places, a church, old village buildings, and a strong sense of local community.
We host 1–2 Workaway volunteers at a time and value a relaxed, respectful atmosphere with real cultural exchange.
We speak Portuguese, German, English, and French, and enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds.
Previously, we had our first positive experiences hosting on our old farm ( Quinta dos Sarilhos ).

What to Do in Your Free Time
There’s plenty to explore nearby:
🚲 Cycling & hiking in Pinhal de Leiria
🏖️ Beaches like Praia da Vieira and Lagoa da Ervideira
🌊 Famous big waves in Nazaré or Figueira da Foz (≈45 min)
🏙️ Porto & Lisbon reachable in about 1.5 hours
🌅 Sand dune viewpoints & nature walks
Public transport is available nearby, and bicycles can be used locally. Our location is easy to reach even without a car.
🚆 Monte Redondo has a train station with connections to larger cities, and car pickup can be arranged upon request.
🚌 There is a local bus RDL (Rodoviaria de Lis) to Vieira de Leiria, Monte Redondo and Marinha Grande, with onward connections to bigger cities such as Lisbon and Coimbra. This makes traveling along the coast simple and flexible for volunteers.
1. To Vieira de Leiria: RDL (Rodoviaria de Lis) route 960/627 provides a direct link from Coimbrão to Vieira de Leiria (roughly 10–15 min ride). For example, buses arriving at Coimbrão at 09:30 continue on to Vieira at 10:25. No transfer is needed.
2. To Monte Redondo: The same RDL service goes on to Monte Redondo (station) without change. Coimbrão→Monte Redondo takes about 10 minutes by bus. Monte Redondo is a key hub (with CP rail service to Coimbra) and also connects by local bus to Vale da Bajouca/Leiria.
3. To Marinha Grande: Some RDL runs (line 627) extend from Monte Redondo through Coimbrão all the way to Marinha Grande. For instance, a bus might run from Coimbrão (Igreja) at ~15:30 to Monte Redondo then terminate at Marinha Grande (Terminal). This gives access to the larger town of Marinha Grande without transfers.
If you’re looking for a peaceful place, meaningful exchange, and nature-based living, we’d be happy to welcome you 🌞
