  • Description

We are Tommy, Sheldon and Zach, 3 guys from England and Canada who recently bought a hostel in the Oaxacan surfers' paradise of Puerto Escondido. It's a big, colourful villa with a pool, in a quiet neighbourhood within walking distance of the beaches. The hostel offers an intimate atmosphere and attracts guests of all ages from all over the world, some of whom can end up staying for a long time or returning to stay with us.

Because plans tend to change so often, especially on the road, please contact us within a week of your potential/desired arrival date, we have no idea who we will need a month from now.

We are looking for various volunteer positions.

    Please read on.

Puerto Escondido is a VERY cool town. Surfing is definitely one of the most popular activities, but there's more to Puerto than just surfing. Go out on the open water for a fishing trip and return not only with fresh caught tuna, but also up close interactions with dolphins and turtles. Learn how to dance salsa or take Spanish lessons at one of the excellent language schools. Go deep sea diving, snorkeling, kayaking, whale spotting or simply relax on the beach and dance the night away in one of the many bars. You will not be stuck for activities during your stay in Puerto Escondido, that's for sure!

The hostel is close to the best swimming beaches of Puerto Escondido and a 5 minute walk from the beginner/intermediate break at Playa Carrizalillo. We are just steps away from the Rinconada, which has a bunch of great restaurants ranging from Middle Eastern cuisine to seafood straight from the ocean, to pizza and even sushi. You can basically walk to anything that you need and taxis to nearby neighborhoods in Puerto Escondido cost only 40-50 pesos.

  • Help

We are looking for 2 types of people for 2 different positions:

    1) Someone who is happy to work hard in short bursts and have lots of free time. This person needs to be conscientious in their tasks, with an attention to detail in order to maintain the high standard of cleanliness we aim to provide for our guests. This help involves getting comfortable with a broom and mop, folding a lot of sheets (neatly) and making some beds. The 'silver lining' is that you would be doing two days on and then two days off. The role will be taking care of laundry and keeping the place tidy, including bathrooms, but no start before 10:30am, leaving you with tons of free time to explore the surroundings, enjoy the nearby beaches or just chill in a hammock. Minimum stay commitment required: 3 weeks. I also ask that those who are arriving for this role to also manage the social media channels (add the content).

    2) Someone who is sociable, dynamic and who speaks enough Spanish to be comfortable answering phone inquiries. This person needs to be open, friendly and pro-active, handle bookings and payments and make guests feel right at home. In other words, checking people in and out, interacting with guests and some light housekeeping. The work schedule changes each week and at a maximum you would work 5 shifts a week but mostly 4 per week, 5hrs per shift (20-25 hours max a week) - which might involve a lot of time hanging by the pool. Minimum stay commitment required: 1 month.

If you've read the above carefully and think this could be your gig, please write 'Viva Vivo' followed by 1 or 2 according to the position you're interested in. We are currently looking for volunteers to arrive by the second week of SEPTEMBER 2019.

    *** ARTISTS ***

    All types of styles.

We are very proud of our gallery that we call a hostel. We have a whole bunch of walls that we want to adorn with some fresh beautiful murals to add to the collection. The standard is very high and so we would ask to see a portfolio.

Our hostel receives thousands of guests a year who all come away with the impression that this is a creative space. And your work would be enjoyed by all that pass through.

We have our hearts set on some murals but some walls are to the artist's creative freedom. Please contact us with a link to any portfolio. Thanks

    *** YOGA TEACHERS ***

We have a beautiful rooftop space in which to run classes and would like to start getting a name for ourselves who offer it as a full time service. The role, as we see it, would be to run classes 4 days a week, morning and afternoon sessions.
We have no experience in the types of yoga but we understand credentials so any and all types please get in contact, we would be looking to have classes throughout the year. We are looking for someone to start from mid December

    *** CARPENTERS ***

Although Zach and Sheldon are both carpenters, they are not here full time but we have a few interesting projects that we think would be worth-while having a carpenter on site for. Please contact us for more details.
