  Description

  A team of 3 Australian guys taking on a dream hostel project in the best town in the world! We are building a 3 level structure from the ground up sitting on a hill overlooking the Oaxaca coast. We are walking distance to the beach and also the main tourist precinct of town in La Punta, but just far enough away from the chaos to also enjoy some peace.
  
  This construction is taken on using the usual Mexican albañil methods and built from bricks and concrete.
  We employ 3 Mexican builders full time and we (Jimbo and Phil) are also experienced construction workers who work full time hours on this project. That's not expected of the workawayers! We hope for around 20 flexible hours a week from our workawayers.
  
  We only work here seasonally in the winters because we need to go back to our real jobs in the off season. We are just regular guys so we need to keep going back to work to save more money to continue our project. After 3 big seasons of heavy lifting, concrete and hard labour we have most of the hard construction work out of the way now and are coming into the time of more exciting and different tasks for the build. Now that most of the structure is up we will be finishing rooms off with floors, plaster, paint etc. This also opens up more space for fun/artistic/creative volunteers. If you can paint murals we are listening! Not just in our build, but also we have a camper van that would look great with some art on the side.
  
  We are conscious about our environment, community and our waste so we are off grid using solar power/water tanks etc. The greener the better. We can host up to 4 workawayers at a time and these are the things we are looking for.

  🔨 GENERAL CONSTRUCTION LABOUR. PEOPLE WILLING TO WORK HEAVY CONSTRUCTION JOBS, DIG HOLES, CARRY BUCKETS ETC. LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE SOME LEVEL OF CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE AND CAN USE TOOLS IS PREFERRED BUT OPEN TO ANYONE WILLING TO WORK AND LEARN.
  
  📹ANY VIDEOGRAPHERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, VLOGGERS ETC WHO WOULD LOVE TO HELP DOCUMENT THIS PROJECT AND STORY SO FAR! WE ARE PLANNING ON MAKING A YOUTUBE DOCU-SERIES SO ANYONE WITH EXPERIENCE IN THE AREA. WE HAVE SOME CAMERAS, A DRONE, MICROPHONES FOR INTERVIEWS ETC AND ARE HOPING TO MAKE THIS A PRIORITY THIS YEAR FOR SEASON 4. ALSO WE CAN USE HELP WITH SOCIAL MEDIA, MAKING REELS/TIK TOK ETC AND MARKETING FOR OUR FUTURE BUSINESS AS A HOSTEL

  Between us we have vast knowledge and skills from the construction industry. Jim is a dual trade Electrician/HVAC and is also a solar expert. Phil is a master of brick, stone, concrete, tiling and wet trades. We also have 3 local Mexican builders who we have worked with for years now and we have learned a lot from them about Mexican tricks and techniques as well.
  
  We met through snowboarding and are big travel and adventure enthusiasts who love to road trip in old vans! We hope to meet like-minded people from all corners of the world. We want to learn more Spanish and new skills from people from other cultures! Language exchange is always fun. Also we have taught many people staying with us how to ride a motorcycle which is quite rewarding!
  
  We can provide local knowledge of the area, where to go and not to go, and give you the best sunset in the world, everyday.

  Help

  We are looking for good people who don't mind getting dirty and enjoy physically pushing themselves in a job site environment.
  Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Shovelling. Construction experience welcomed. The last three seasons have been heavily involved with concreting/formworking/tying steel but this season we will moving into more finishing parts including plastering, running services like plumbing as well as fitting doors and windows. If you can weld, you will be very handy this year! This year we are also pleased and excited to be at a stage where there will be more artistic projects that need to be carried out including painting/mural/tiling/mosaic/gardening.
  Aside from working on the construction, there are other areas we need help with including cooking, cleaning and basic maintenance of the camp. Running errands like picking up materials, supplies and food, cooking for a large group.
  If you can ride a motorbike this is definitley a plus! We have motorbikes that we can share for work tasks, and also rent for after hours use pending availability.
  Also looking for other cool skills; Video/Photo/Edit/Social media/Artists (painting)/Teach español.
  If you're a fun person we will have you. The only requirement is to have a lot of spirit!

  Accommodation

  Now that we have our place out of the ground and officially have 4 walls and a roof, we are so excited to be able to provide actual rooms! Although they won't be finished, it's still a level up from a tent. Spaces will be limited, so these spots will be available depending on length of stay and what skills you can offer! There may possibly be an overflow of tented camping accomodation also depending on who wants to visit us. We have an outdoor kitchen, shower, long drop toilet. However during these next few months we will be finishing rooms and the more time that passes, the more comforts we will have! We cook our food on a barbecue/gas cooker, daily breaky and lunch to be supplied, along with refreshments. There is also an abundance of restaurants within walking distance. We also like to cook a bbq each Friday and share some beers together.

  What else ...

  You need to be able to handle living a bit rough. The floor is dirt, the shower is outside, it can rain alot. But, the fire is warm, the people are real and the dream is alive.
  But most importantly we are looking for people who can gel well with the crew and love to share stories, have a laugh and be a team player!

  Topé (3 years)

  Topé is one in a million!! He was born to a local Puerto Escondido street dog. He had people caring for him since he was a puppy but was still semi-homeless until he chose us as his people. Topé didn’t have a real home until we put the collar on him when he was 7 months old. He hasn’t looked back!! We’ve never had fences and he could have left at any time. But now he is part of our family.
  
  Since then he has learned to ride motorbikes, made loads of friends, found a nice girlfriend and has even road tripped with us from Mexico to Canada and back!
  
  He is now a part of the family and this place is his forever home. He has taken out the award for best employee 3 years in a row!
