  • Description

We are now looking for volunteers for our end of season, from ASAP until the end of the season 4 October.

We are a group of three community-based not-for-profit holistic holiday Centres that offers workshops and retreats from MAY -- SEPTEMBER in Pelion, Greece. Our programmes include Creative Arts, Healing {self, society, planet}, Interpersonal Communication and Self-enquiry. (Note: We are closed from October through April.)

Each Centre is staffed entirely by a team of international volunteers and work exchange students who come from anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks. The Centres are run as a full community with all the guests and workshop participating in the cooking, cleanup and gardening. The staff coordinate the work and create the authentic community that holds each campus. The work is variable, and includes cooking, organic gardening, shopping, buildiing and maintenance. Our volunteers actually complement the workshop leaders, serving as adjunct faculty themselves as they model holistic living and working. Staff volunteers put in about 25 hr/week, with two days off. And its not all about work: we get to the beach every day!

Ideally we like our volunteers to have had some living/working experience in one of the recognized international ecovillages (eg, Findhorn, Auroville, ZEGG, Tamera etc) or at least to have some knowledge and interest in what the global ecovillage movement (GEN) is about, its vision and its values. These are incalcated in the mantra: people care, earth care, fair share. If you have not yet had first hand ecovillage experience we will ask you for a small ($5/day) contribution to cover your food and energy costs when you are with us, and which goes directly to the three non-profit charities that operate our Centres.

We have a workcamp to close up our campuses at the last 2 weeks of Sept and the first week of October. Workaway volunteers pay only $35/week that as a non profit we are eligible to receive.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Living in the Centre of a small traditional Greek village, you will experience the Greek culture first hand. You might learn a few words of Greek and you certainly will get the opportunity to do some Greek dancing with the locals.

Live for a few weeks in a true community on Mt. Pelion, overlooking the Aegean sea, hiking to spectacular beaches, gathering medicinal herbs used since ancient times. Discover community, discover nature, discover life, discover Greece and experience how working, playing and sharing together are the ingredients for building true community together as a group. As a volunteer you will participate in our daily staff meetings, learning how to facilitate groups, process conflicts and lead meetings. This is an educational process that goes well beyond your daily physical work in the kitchen or garden.

    What else ...

An interest in communal living and the ability to work in a team are useful. Our meals at the Centre are vegetarian. There are nearby Greek tavernas that can supplement these as a personal option.

Our various summer programs run May to Oct. Come join us for as long as you like.

We are always interested in Greek speakers or anyone keen to learn Greek as few people speak English or German in our little village of Kissos, Pelion.
