    Description

    Hello!

We are a young family, 35 and 32, with 2 small humans, (olderst born Jan 2022 and youngest Feb 2024). I (Oli) am British, before our first child came along I worked as a nanny and on a non-profit charity bike ride, I am now training to be a Forest School Leader while being home with our kids. Sascha is Swiss, an electrician who also enjoys converting vans to campers, but he is currently working full time on our house. We also have a cat, Asterix, he's a chiller and spends his time sleeping or out doing who knows what! He likes strokes and food and often accompanies us on walks.

We moved to Switzerland 5 years ago, after living for 3.5 years in the UK in our van. We bought our lovely old Swiss house 4 years ago and have been doing work on it since. We are doing a lot of it ourselves, but the bigger things will get builders in for. We are currently working on the back part of the house that will be a separate unit to rent out. Right now it is basically just a shell, so there is lots to do!

We are pretty chilled, we want you to feel at home here. We of course expect mutual respect, and kindness :) In the evenings and on days we aren't working on the house or doing other things, we like to play board games, play music, go hiking, have campfires, watch movies, chat about the world and the universe over nice dinners etc. We also fully appreciate the need for chill alone time, and need it ourselves sometimes.

Where: It's in the Sernftal valley, surrounded by the Swiss Alps, with skiing just a 15 minute bus ride away. Also lovely snow shoeing, cross country skiing and all that other wintery stuff. And in summer hiking, cycling, climbing etc. There is a river a 5 min walk away that you can dip in (not properly swim) and there are of course lakes around!

Accommodation: You will have your own room and share the bathroom and kitchen with us. We can share the cooking, but we will buy most of the food. We eat predominantly veggie but not strict on anything :)

Help: The work moves quickly so we can't say exactly what it will be, but in general an extra pair of hands for Sascha working on the back. Things like, moving rubble, putting up insulation, sanding etc.

If there's no suitable work with the building then we would appreciate help with household things like batch cooking meals for the freezer, cleaning, other bits n bobs.

Hours: 15-20 hours a week would help us out a lot and gives you lots of time to explore the area. Of course if you want to work more you can! The hours can be worked when you like, at first we'd like you to work with one of us and then if we are all happy you can work alone.

About you: we are open to all kinds of people, but there are a few things we look for in workawayers. Being comfortable with small kids and enjoying their company. Being independent in discovering the area and getting out and about, we will of course give you information, drive you places and invite you to things we are doing when it's possible/appropriate. Being used to sharing spaces and chipping in, while you're staying this is also your home, so help cooking, clearing up afterwards, and other living together stuff is expected.

    Covid-19: We're both vaccinated.

If you are interested in a stay in the beautiful Swiss Mountains, get in touch!

We look forward to hearing from you :)

    Oli, Sascha, Ivar and Jonin

We live in the Swiss mountains, so you get the full Swiss countryside vibes. Perfect for people that enjoy the outdoors, not sooo great (terrible) if you like nightlife. Sascha is Swiss and speak decent Swiss German, so if you want to learn some, we will happily teach you/speak some.

We are surrounded by farms, so lots of lovely local cheese and meat.

    What else ...

The local bus goes every hour, taking you in one direction to the ski pistes/deeper into the mountains and the other to the local town where you can get the train into Zürich or other places around Switzerland (both directions are a 15 min bus journey). We are often driving to various places and are happy to give lifts when it works.

We live a pretty quiet life but we love meeting new people, having a good chat over a nice dinner, playing board games, going for swims, campfires and then sometimes just chilling out and watching some tv, reading etc. We also both like some quiet alone time and we appreciate you probably also may need some.

We expect you to be respectful of us, our home and neighbours. And we will of course be respectful to you. We like open communication, friendliness and just general kindness.
