A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN HERE AND HELPED WITH THE VERY BIG TASK OF CASTLE HACKET.

WE ARE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US UNTIL WE CHANGE THIS MESSAGE, AS WE WON'T BE REPLYING.

Our castle is a large country house estate. We are doing our best to preserve and renovate it being one of the surviving historic early 18th century houses set in park land. Our aim is to accomplish the above in a manor that is fun, interesting and rewarding. We are gradually working towards producing our own lamb, poultry, vegetables etc and are interested in good food and country life. The possibilities are endless for varied tasks including restoration and tending of gardens, park land, woodland habitats and of course maintenance of the house and domestic necessities. We find it impossible to do all that we would like and would welcome additional imput from people who have an interest and ability in any of the above and perhaps other tasks. This could be of a short or long term nature and in return we offer you a nice room and all meals, living with us as part of a family.

Thank you for the interest in coming here. We are booked up now until late autumn and will update our request when ready to find more workaways.

Hope you all have a good summer.

As you can see we have been on here for some years and have met wonderful volunteers. With time our work has changed and we now find we always point out to people that they must be prepared for hard work. Most of which is outside. If you are happy with the potential of hard, heavy work, please apply. Sometimes it is repetitive with the size of the job, but we do try to vary, teach new skills and most importantly laugh when needed! If you like manual work, inside and out, with and without animals, we look forward to hearing from you.

A big thank you to everyone who has stayed with us since April. Today we saw the last leave (25.8.12) and can't believe where the time has gone! We are thrilled with the work done, the wonderful people we have met and that so many keep in touch.

So much has been achieved, and as always is the case with somewhere like this, and a farm, there is always plenty more to do. However, if you want to help with logging fallen trees and painting windows before the winter really sets in, please contact us. We haven't managed to have a vegetable garden this year due to work load and back injuries, but if someone is interested in the specific project and would like to do this with our guidance, or even their knowledge and experience, please contact us.

June 2013 - Lambing over and we are back to other outside work. This year particularly in the woods collecting fallen timber, so if you are strong and happy to work in the Irish weather, please contact us. Ideally a couple of people at a time means that there is more craic! It is a beautiful setting here and people never cease to be amazed by the pleasant environment.

    Please contact us this appeals.

At other times the possibilities are endless for varied tasks including restoration and tending of gardens, park land, woodland habitats and of course maintenance of the house and domestic necessities.
