    Description

Hello! I’m Miguel, a writer and filmmaker who, since some years ago, relocated from Lisbon to live in the house built by my paternal great-grandparents, in Vale do Pereiro, near Sertã, central Portugal. I have founded in this house a non-profit cultural association and a community facility for the region. We ( The ' association) carry out various projects and events, including artist’s residencies, concerts, film-productions, and many other cultural and artistic venues. I also work teaching Karate to local children twice a week. The house is set in a very rural environment, and we are surrounded by a beautiful nature and a small river nearby. Some lovely pets are living here with us, a cat named Matisse, and two dogs, Flecha and Darwin. The house is a welcoming place often filled with people from all around the world and also locals, who gather for the events, to lend a helping hand or just to say hello.

In exchange for your help, you will of course receive food and accommodation for the duration of your stay. The area is surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape for walking, you can also take a swim and enjoy the nearby river. You can always practise or improve your Portugues language skills with us and you will have plenty of free time to eventually work or your own personnal projects, artistic or not. The working hours are flexibel and will be decided together. The work varies depending on the projects going on at the moment of your stay and your own abilities. We will be all working together and learning from each other. We tend to became friends with everyone that comes to stay for a while here, and we are always looking forward to keep this friendships in the future.

We are currently still remodeling some parts of the house (Interior finishing works, refurbishment, a bit of small electrical installations, small Plumbing works, …)
We have already build the bar of the association but still need to finish the future projection room and exhibition room... We have build a library space and remodeled some of the studies/offices and the accommodation for artists in residency but some work is still to be done in order to achieve the project properly (small bits of DIY, wall-painting, cleaning, wiring, small carpentry...)
You are also more than welcome to help with new ideas and you own abilities to improve the place! We also have a land where a landscape/permaculture and also exterior events venue project will emerge, but this project is currently only in the study phase.

There are a couple of options you can take in order to arrive in Vale do Pereiro. You can catch a train to Vila Velha de Ródão (there’s a direct service from Lisbon), which is situated some 40km from here. Otherwise you can catch a coach to Sertã, a town around 8km away. In both cases someone will come and collect you when you arrive. Vale do Pereiro is a village that does not contain any shops or amenities—the town of Sertã is where we’ll be able to find these: there are several supermarkets, and many cafés and shops. There are busses to and from Sertã, however they only come twice a day, so the best thing is for us to coordinate on our trips ‘into civilisation’. There is also a bicycle available (with side-compartments for carrying shopping) for anyone more athletically inclined; be warned that the hills means it takes only about 15 minutes to arrive in Sertã, but around 45 to get back!
Any other special demands can be eventually be arranged, feel free to share it with us!
