We are an NGO and we operate a community center for the residents of a nearby refugee camp.
We provide psycho-social support throughout our different programs: Female Friendly Space, Children Friendly Space, Educational Program (English and German lessons), Arts and Recreation program (yoga/fitness/dance/guitar/piano lessons), and Warehouse (distribution of dry food/ clothes/hygiene products).
We are located in Serres, Northern Greece, about an hour away from Thessaloniki.
The residents of the camps are from eighteen different nationalities and backgrounds.
Due to the COVID pandemic and government restrictions, our community centre was closed for a long while and we are only now slowly reopening, with the Education Programme, Female Space and Children Space having restarted, but we cannot wait to be able to be fully functional again and go back to our lively and wholesome normal activities. We are also continuing with our Distribution Programme and doing extra activities like gardening and art therapy sessions.
We are recruiting a limited number of volunteers, to start from August on and help in the reopening process!
This is how it usually goes: you send us your e-mail, read our information pack, check which programme(s) you identify the most, and fill out a form that would be provided, talking a little bit about your experiences, motivation, and which programmes you would like to join. If the form is successful, we invite you to an interview and after that, the final decision is made.
Skills preferred: English / German teacher (experience, TEFL, or strong interest and organizational skills), experience working with children, experience working with women and girls.
Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
Thank you very much for your interest and we look forward to your messages!

We can provide different types of volunteer opportunities :
- Female Friendly Space volunteers: facilitate activities like knitting day, spa day, movie day, ensure that the space is safe, socialize with the residents.
- Children Friendly Space: facilitate different activities for children aged 2 to 6 (sensory games, role play, construction, etc.), ensure the safety of the space, help the children to interact in an appropriate way and to express themselves.
- English teachers (TEFL and CELTA or previous experience preferred)
- German teachers (no certification or experience necessary, only a good/fluent level of German)

In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer‘s stay. (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.
