    Description

In the heart of the Wilderness National Park, our place offers easy accessibility to the Touw River Estuary. With over 25 years of experience, it is a well-established company!
With the Wilderness National Park right on our doorstep, there is plenty to do within close vicinity including one of the best hiking trails Wilderness has to offer leading straight out from our driveway; the Kingfisher Trail.
Too hot for walking? Take a 5 minute stroll nextdoor down the iconic abandoned railway and jump off the bridge into the river
Many of the best hiking, walking and bird watching trails can be joined straight out of our driveway. That’s also one of the reasons we decided to name our rooms after local birds’ names – for example, the beautiful Kingfisher. The hiking trail that starts opposite to the backpackers’ entrance is also named after the Kingfisher: “The Kingfisher trail”.

We are a backpackers with an adventure centre and a popular local bar. We have live music 2 or 3 times a week. We are looking for volunteers who would like to assist with the variety of tasks that we have from: front of house, promotion, adventure activities.

We prepare a meal every night for the staff and guests. If volunteers enjoy cooking, they can help prepare the meal but it is not expected of them.

You will be required to do at least half a day of help five days a week for a minimum of a two month stay

In return for your services we offer dorm accommodation, all meals and free use of our adventure equipment like kayaks. You will also have plenty of time to explore our backyard.

The backpackers adjoins the Wilderness National Park which has fantastic forest hikes, beach walks and a river for all water activities. Fishing is also good.
The National Park's main hiking trail, the kingfisher trail, passes our front gate and we have access to the Touw river to launch our kayaks.

On the property we have walks in and around the forest , access to a well kept bird hide, a volley ball court, football, a fully licensed bar with drink specials, pool, darts, fire area, friendly people, good vibes and much more magic for you to experience.

We are also an adventure centre offering all the activities and tours available in Wilderness which range from kayaking the Touws River to the waterfall, canyoning through the epic Wilderness gorges, horse riding in the forest, paragliding from the Map of Africa, abseiling down steep cliff-sides.

    Accommodation

During the winter, volunteers will share a room between themselves. The room is normally occupied by 2 volunteers.

In the summer time, we erect a large military size tent for the volunteers to occupy. This is during the busy season which demands for more help, which means the tent could be occupied by up to 4 volunteers.

Bedding will be provided in both winter and summer.

Volunteers have access to provisions to make their own breakfast and lunch. For dinner, a good wholesome meal is provided every night. Our chef is always trying something new, keeping the meals fresh and exciting!

We have many lovely beaches a small distance away and we adjoin a national park. Our volunteers enjoy their time out going kayaking, canyoning, hiking, birding, swimming, surfing , playing games or just relaxing with a book. We often load up the staff and do a lovely day trip to other towns and/or markets. We have all our dinners together as a family, and enjoy spending time in each other's company.
