Our Zen-Buddhist Temple located in the Fujian Province would like to invite volunteers from different parts of the world to come and experience the temple life, learn about Buddhism, Kung Fu and be part of our community. We have available spots for both short term (1 week minimum) and long term (1 month).
We require help with a variety of things including:

In exchange, we will provide free accommodation and three delicious and very nutritious vegan meals per day.
The Nanshaolin Buddhist Temple is a religious place, so if you decide to join we need to ask you to strictly follow and respect our monastery’s rules:
1.Women and men have to sleep in different sleeping quarters and are not allowed into each other´s rooms
2.Couples are welcome to join but you can’t display any form of intimacy or affection while in the monastery facilities
including the dorms, such as kissing, hugging or holding hands
3.You have to follow the monastery schedule and be punctual (described below) and follow the instructions of the head monk and team lead at all times
4.You have to wear the volunteer uniform at all times during your stay: orange vest, long sleeves, long trousers and covered shoes for daily work and brown robe for chant ceremony in the morning and in the evening
5.You have to follow the monastery etiquette in the dining hall, which will be explain in detail upon arrival
6.Gambling, including any form of card games, are strictly forbidden during work or free time. We encourage you to read, explore the town or enjoy nature on your free time
7.Reception closes at 19:30, so any volunteer arriving after 19:00 on their first day will need to arrange accommodation elsewhere. We strongly suggest to plan your arrival accordingly and try to join us during the morning or early afternoon to avoid any problems
8.Controversial topics involving politics, religious conflict and other sensitive issues are not welcome
9.Alcohol and any kind of drugs including cigarettes are strictly forbidden
You will be given 3 days to decide if you like the life in the temple as a trial period and afterwards you can decide if you want to extend your stay up to one month in total.

usually the drum beats at 8:30pm and it means its time for rest and get ready for sleep.
Most Sundays we just work in the morning and then we take the day off to do other activities like excursions to nearby temples/villages or go hiking/shopping in the downhill town.
Some of the activities are optional as stated but we encourage volunteers to attend as many of the ceremonies as possible to learn about the Buddhist culture and get the most out of this experience.
We would love to learn about your culture too, so if you could bring any gift or souvenir from your home town for the monks or other volunteers we would really appreciate it.

Type of help
The tasks will be assigned daily by the head monk and the team lead such as
1.Kitchen work: chopping and washing vegetables, take out garbage, etc.
2.Organic farm work: picking up and watering the vegetables, preparing the soil for seed planting, removing
weeds and garden general maintenance
3.Housekeeping: keeping the dorm building clean including corridors floor, windows and bedding's
4.Labour work: wood cutting for fire and light construction work
5.General temple maintenance: watering the plants, cleaning the temple praying halls, students training halls
and temple outdoor spaces
6.Rituals and ceremony rooms preparation
7.Help out with weekend charity sales: setting up equipment, helping preparing food and carrying items
8.Fundraising for events and different projects
9.Cultural exchange: introducing your cultural background and traditions to the martial art students and other
10.Technical support with website and IT requirements
11.Photo and video editing
12.Event planning: We are looking for a partner to help us promote the tradition Chinese culture including martial arts, Chinese vegan cuisine, tea, Chinese traditional therapy and herb medicine, traditional music, etc.
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As a volunteer you will have the chance to experience first-hand the Buddhist lifestyle and rituals, as well as learning about calligraphy, vegan Chinese cuisine, Chinese medicine, Kung Fu, among other things. In exchange, we would love to learn about your culture as well.
We are always happy to receive both short term and long term volunteers in our monastery to help with daily temple task and long term projects respectively as described above.
As the monastery is sustain by the good will of volunteers and donations of other members of the community, donations to help the daily running cost of the temple are always welcome.
We have female and male dorms with 3 bunk beds each (6 beds) and a private toilet with shower and hot water. There are specific floors for each gender. In the dorms building there are spaces to wash clothes and access boiling water to prepare tea or coffee.
Volunteers are responsible for keeping their dorms clean and tidy.
There are shops and restaurants right outside the temple, plus a small shop in the temple where you can buy souvenirs as well as ice cream and soft drinks.
Visa and invitation letter
The monastery currently will not issue any documents supporting you to apply the visa. You should sort out your Chinese VISA before coming to the temple and we won’t be able to provide and invitation letter for your VISA application. And your passport and VISA will be checked upon arrival. The visa type could be student visa or tourism visa and visiting visa.

they will have learn a buddist way of life and ; experience traditional Chinese medical treatment ; and enjoy the tea we planted by volunteers . you will have also the full planted vegan food for three meals for free !
We need a short and mdieum term volunteer to help on a organic farm attached to a Buddhism monastery in Fujian prov in South China, we will provide free three meals( vegan)and dorm bed(6ppl/deck room).,sometimes may stay in drum tower due to student camp activities taken the dorm beds ! organize tours in township cities and villages around ,short hiking as well as other trips to interesting sites within the province are possible but not a routine and fixed program!
donations are welcome to temple as the daily running costs lots.
6X beds dorm with bathroom(shower) or in a drum tower depends the beds availability for free。The three meals are full planted made and pure vegan (no meat/milk/egg) . There are shops and restaurants outside the temple. there is also a small shop in the temple where you can buy souvenirs as well as ice cream and soft drinks!
volunteers will have time for off work,,,you have time for reading, shopping, and washing clothes, there is a mini bus services from the temple to the downtown, you may have opportunity to visit local farmers and villages and enjoy city tours nearby. please be attention that the final bus from the down to the temple is 16:30pm. and early bus from temple to the downtown is 8:00am. the bus fee is 5yuan. you can also find a taxi .
visa issue: applicant should be noticed that the temple will not be reponsible for short/long term visa and generally not possible to issue such documents supporting you to get the visa from the Embassy!
the dorm needs to keep clean by all the roommates.
please don't have soft drinks in the dinning hall.

THE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AND DINNAR ARE SERVED BY VOLUNTEERS, IF YOU DONT SERVE PLEASE DONT STAND UP AND GET FOOD BY YOURSELF. USUALLY THEY SERVE TWICE AND AFTER NO MORE SERVED EVEN YOU WANT MORE, SO PLEASE ASK MORE WHEN THEY SERVE THE TWICE.
