I stayed with Veera, Tuomas and their family for one month and had a great time. From the beginning, they made sure I had everything I needed and was comfortable. I helped with different things around the house, such as cleaning, laundry and ironing, prepared the airbnb for guests and took care of their sweet dog. Their kids are very active and energetic and I had a fun time watching them or baking christmas cookies together. Sometimes it wasn't easy to communicate because of the language barrier. I'm very thankful for experiencing life in this lovely finnish family and all the extras that came with it (Veera letting me stay in her hotel room in Helsinki, so I could see even more of the city, thanks again:) ). This place was the best WorkAway experience so far! The hostal is so beautiful and has a really beautiful vibe. All the people were so friendly and made me feel like home for the 3,5 weeks I stayed there. The trips they organise in the hostal are great! The work was very chill too. All in all it was a really really great time. Especially Diego made my stay wonderful. Thank you all for everything! 🫰

'Ciao ragazzo bello!' I really don't know where to start, despite of being part of the family during offseason, I had a wonderful time! From the very first moment I felt a warm welcome, with the best food! I am not lying to say that I don't know somebody else who can cook as good as Mamma Patty. I laughed a lot, I learned the beginnings of Chess and to live in a family with the most beautiful people <3. I loved to work outside e.g. chopping the wood, which gave me the realisation that people in general must be aware to be more independent and get a rewarding feeling of fulfilling the basic essentials by themselves! Next summer I would love to come back and help Mamma Patty and Andrea with their delicious vegetables! All the best, Joey

In November I spent two weeks at Barbara's community center. A simple, rural life with a warm atmosphere thanks to the people here. Barbara is a worldly woman, sociable, and friendly. The work was mostly outdoors and varied. It was enjoyable, and everything was well explained. If you want to see the area, you don't need to go to the tourist office because Barbara is very knowledgeable and gives great tips. The first day, I mainly saw the old house, which needs maintenance. But you get used to it, and every day I saw more of the charm of the place and the (enormous) estate, and I'm glad I stayed here. Just walking around, listening to the many different birds, enjoying the garden and the nature around the house... and of course, the dogs and cat. In the evenings, it cooled down considerably, and we were happy with the fire. I loved it here. Barbara, Helen, and Enzo, thank you for this experience.

By far the most enjoyable workaway adventure I have ever had. Heidi and Jon are exceptionally hospitable and kind people. I worked with Jon painting the house; he is not only pleasant company but also interested in me as a person. Heidi is a caring, empathetic woman with excellent cooking skills. I had wonderful conversations with both of them. Their son often made me laugh. I'm grateful that I was able to stay with them. Friends for life !

Samuel and Lucy are very welcoming and motivated teachers! They are running this project to help kids with different backgrounds and less opportunities. It is not obvious to find such motivated and open people! Me and other volunteers we stayed in a near by guest house and Samuel and Lucy were nice to invite us for breakfast and meals. They also introduce us to other youngster to take a break and go out for a drink during the evening. We all once cooked all together introducing the kids and the family to a typical Italian dish, gnocchi (revisited with matoke). It was a pleasure to see the kids enjoying and seeing on how to Ugandese like to eat it. So if you want to have an impact this organisation is perfect! Why? There is a tangible effect, kids in the schools really struggles having bare minimum (they struggle to have access to clean water, nor desk/chair in the school and some places not even doors). Though their happiness and openness (even with strangers like me) was astonishing! Moreover the family is super welcoming and their passion is true and admirable! Feel free to text me for more info

We spent 3 weeks at Mama Jane and Victor’s house and had an amazing time! The kids may be a bit shy at first, but as soon as they get to know you, they are wonderful and full of life. We spent all our weekdays with them until around 4 pm, after which we had some free time to chill. Even though it was the holiday season, we were still able to give creative and academic classes and play lots of sports with them (it could be really helpful to prepare a few topics you feel confident teaching in advance :)) As 2 women, we were a bit scared about safety, but as long as you don’t go out at night, its completely fine and safe, (it’s also safe to take a bus from Nairobi to the island)! Mama Jane’s cooking was really good and diverse! We were there at the same time as 4 other volunteers and shared an apartment with 2 of them. We didn’t have electricity nor wifi there, so we would definitely recommend to bring flashlights, good power banks, washing soap, malaria pills, and get a safaricom sim card in Nairobi (a lot easier !!) There’s a market 15 mins walk from Mama Jane’s place where you can buy essentials you may need, and the closest town is 15 mins motorbike away. P.S.: Mama Jane has a very friendly cat and an adorable dog together with many other animals in the area. For more info about the extremely cute dog, text us Zoe and will be happy to answer questions about him :)) The water they offer is completely safe to drink as wel!!

Mi e dispiaciuto non averlo portato, per problemi con la mia auto, a vedere i bei posti nella nostra zona. Sarà per la prossima volta 🤔. Ci ha anche cucinato un delizioso piatto. Noor spent two weeks with us in the countryside and made a very positive impression on us. He was always helpful, friendly, and positive, and eager to learn. I can only thank him for his support.

Freida was a pleasure to deal with. Her communication skills were excellent and she was quick to understand and follow instruction. She was very kind with the animals , staff and volunteers. She was always very punctual and carried out every task with care. A pleasure having her as part of the team!

I spent 11 weeks with the family, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was my first Workaway experience, and I truly couldn’t have hoped for a better host family. From the very moment I arrived, Deirdre, Jerry, Matthew, Annie, and Margaret made me feel like a member of their family. Everything about this place is wonderful: the beautiful surrounding landscapes, the kindness of the Irish people, and the comfortable en-suite bedroom where you stay. Living here allows you to experience real Irish life, starting with shared meals and the best breakfasts in the world, lovingly prepared by Deirdre. The kids are fantastic as well. I loved playing board games and video games with the girls, and going farming with Matthew. We shared so many great moments together. There is no typical day, as the work changes every day, but it is always interesting and rewarding. Coming from a big city, I had no idea what farm work involved, but I quickly adapted and really enjoyed it. It was my first time taking care of animals, and I grew very attached to them, especially the dogs. Deirdre and Jerry teach you everything you need to know with patience and kindness, so you never feel lost. They always make sure you feel comfortable and welcome. I learned so many new skills and tried tasks I would never have experienced elsewhere, such as fencing, strimming, sanding and painting walls and doors, renovating a haybob, and mixing concrete. I am incredibly grateful for everything I learned during my stay, and I truly encourage anyone looking for an unforgettable experience with a wonderful family to go for it. Thank you so much for everything and I hope to come back soon!

Nohe was very pleasant and polite and a great character. He worked well with staff and volunteers alike. He carried out any work that was asked and did it to the best of his ability. He was kind to the animals and took everything in his stride. A great athlete and we wish him the very best for the future

I don’t even know where to start. I had an amazing time with Johanna and Tomas. From the very first day I felt at home, not like a volunteer, but like part of the family. We shared life together: cooked, cleaned, ate (sometimes too much 😄), had fun and played games… They are incredibly generous, fun, kind and inspiring. Thanks to them, my trip in Mexico started great. I learned so much about their culture and of course delicious Austrian pastries. I know I’ve made lifelong friends and I will definitely see them again. Feeling very lucky to have spent time with you and admiring the beautiful life you’re building. Your cookie box designer will be back 🤍

Leti es una chica genial, se ha adaptado al ritmo loco de mi casa muy rápido. Le agradezco mucho el cariño que ha demonstrado a mis dos hijas desde el primer dia. Hacia manualidades con ellas, conducia hasta el colegio y nos ha ayudado a plantar algunas hortalizas al huerto. Es una persona muy educada y divertida, hay que destacar que es Geminis ( perfecta ) jejeje. Siempre será bien recibida en nuestra casa.

My experience with Melanie and her beautiful family was unforgettable. It was my first exchange program with a family from Germany. I learned about their culture, traditions, cuisine, and faith. I enjoyed playing ping pong with Tim every day, Lisa is very intelligent and creative, I loved playing with Lulu, Lio, and Joy, helping in the kitchen and cleaning. We also visited the mathematics museum. My gratitude. I recommend this family.

Shannon and Chandler where ideal guests to have stay and help us with the wide variety of tasks we needed done. They're both very friendly and personable, respectful and competent. We had a variety of tasks that needed to be completed ranging from small building projects, landscaping, and general care for plants. They would be ideal work traders for any host looking for responsible, mature people to help in a competent way. They're welcome back here anytime.
