It's difficult to write a review for someone who stopped feeling like a volunteer a long time ago! What was meant to be a shorter stay turned into a much longer one, and our team couldn't have been happier about it. He quickly found his place within our organization and became someone we trusted across different projects, teams and plans (fully embracing multitasking reality of humanitarian work). Life in a small grassroots organization is rarely straightforward. There are always multiple things happening at once, and everyone needs to be ready to contribute wherever needed. He embraced that reality from the start, bringing professionalism, organization, initiative and a willingness to help wherever he could add value. Over time, he became a genuine ambassador for our work and values. Not because anyone asked him to, but because he cared about the mission and the community around him. More importantly, he reminded us that meaningful impact is found in the relationships built, the trust earned and the positive energy left behind. We know this is not the end of our journey together, and we look forward to seeing what comes next. We only hope that we became a home away from home during his time here! Asante sana, rafiki yetu. Abi is delightful- clever, adventurous, and highly dependable. I'm glad that she joined us for a season, and I think anyone would be lucky to have her on their team.

Thanks Anna for helping us and learning new skills, including weeding, harvesting lavender and preparing lavender for making hydrosols. We are sorry you had to return unexpectedly to the UK and wish you all the best for future Workaways.

I had a great time with Leena and Simo. I learned so many new things, such as knitting, woodworking, the Finnish language, and Finnish dishes. I also really enjoyed outdoor activities like biking, hiking, and walking. During my stay, they took me to many beautiful places and taught me so much about Finland. It was a wonderful cultural exchange, and I had a fulfilling week. Thank you so much for welcoming me into your home!

Hinari is very fun, open, social, so cute, nice person . We can give only positive adjectives of her. She took all our suggestions very open and was interested in in all things. We shared so much cultural things with her. We hope that she is now even more interested in Finland, that she will come some other time also to our beautiful country. She has good skills to make delicious meals.She has practical skills. She was like perfect match for us !!! We were like a little family together .

I spent 2 weeks at Mathilde and her husband’s Mike home and it was fantastic. I loved her enthusiasm for life, her energy, our conversations and I’m so grateful that almost everyday when she and her husband were at home (there were 4 days I was pet sitting) she tried to show me something around their area. We went shopping, hiking, having a coffee, and to beautiful natural spots that I fell totally in love with. Their home is amazing and the job was easy (I painted the railings) and enjoyable, the atmosphere relaxed and I had plenty of time to just explore or just be. I loved everything about this experience. Thank you for your hospitality and I’m happy I got to know both of you.

We had great time with Stefi and Luna now in May. She is very kind, open and flexible person so it makes is very easy to live and work with. Big bouns - if you are nice to her you might be lucky to taste her amazing tiramisu!

This was truly a life-changing experience for me. Living within the local community here gave me so much to appreciate. People from the organization will help you throughout all the VISA and pick you up at arrival. And they are so so kind. Once in the house, you will leave with volunteers and a Mama who will prepare lunch and dinner for you. The people in the community are super kind, if you stay long enough and are open you will be in love with them. You can help with social media, teaching mamas entrepeneruship or anything you are really good at, some craftmans work and much more. It is really impacting many families here in Arusha. I wish to go back to the schools again :)

Milena is was a pleasure, a joy, to have living with us in the house. She deserves extra stars. Milena is skilled, experienced and willing to give everything a go. She is a physically able, strong , and an intelligent worker, who completed anything she did to a high standard. Just wonderful. In practical terms: weeding the driveway, shelling heaps of nuts, raking cut grass, pushing mulch or firewood in a wheelbarrow up the hill ... Thank you Mila - come back anytime!! Kakite!

It was truly wonderful to have Kumiko and Naoya with us—an experience we will carry in our hearts for a long time. The two of them are absolutely unique. Even though we could not offer much comfort or luxury, and the weather was genuinely challenging, they never once let it affect their spirit. With quiet strength and admirable resilience, they worked outdoors day after day—planting potatoes in the rain, embracing the elements with a calm dedication that felt almost poetic. There was something deeply inspiring in the way they moved through each day—with patience, humility, and a gentle attentiveness that brought a special atmosphere to our place. Their presence felt harmonious, grounded, and full of grace, in a way that reminded us of the beauty of simplicity and perseverance. We are especially grateful for the many insights you shared with us into Japanese culture—the small gestures, the stories, the way of seeing the world that you so naturally carried with you. It added a richness to our daily life that we will not forget. And the way you connected with our children was simply beautiful. With kindness, playfulness, and a quiet sensitivity, you created moments of joy, curiosity, and connection that meant so much to all of us. Your presence here was like a gentle, steady light—bringing warmth, depth, and a sense of calm even on the greyest days. We feel deeply thankful for the time we shared and would welcome you back anytime with open arms. Arigatou gozaimasu.

Having him with us was an absolute gift. From the very first moment, he brought not only an incredible sense of humour that lifted even the longest working days, but also a remarkable drive and dedication that truly stood out. There was never a task too big or too small—he met everything with openness, energy, and a quiet determination that made all the difference. What made him especially unique was the way he didn’t just “do the work,” but genuinely engaged with it. He observed, reflected, thought ahead, and constantly looked for ways to improve things. His ability to anticipate needs and contribute ideas added real depth and momentum to our project. Beyond all of that, he is a deeply kind and warm-hearted person, with a strong sense of integrity and a truly beautiful character. His presence created a positive, easy atmosphere—full of laughter, lightness, and meaningful connection. He enriched not only the work, but also the everyday moments in between. During the month he spent with us, he became a valued part of our team, and his contribution will be felt long after his departure. We are genuinely grateful for everything he brought into this space—his energy, his spirit, his way of being. Thank you.

What a genuinely uplifting encounter it was to have Marcel with us—and what a joy that he became part of our project. He stayed with us for nearly a month and brought with him a wealth of creativity, constantly sharing thoughtful ideas and perspectives that enriched what we are building here. He approached every task with a practical mindset and quiet confidence, always ready to get involved and contribute. Marcel has a wonderfully balanced and bright nature—easygoing, positive, and full of lightness. He was always up for a laugh, yet equally open to meaningful conversations and deeper exchanges, which we truly appreciated. It would make us very happy to welcome him back again one day.

I won’t lose many words. Anyone who has the chance to get to know Koos and Peter should not miss it. The two of them are truly unique and contributed immensely to the success of our project. Their positive attitude towards everything—really everything—their zest for life, their willingness to work, and their energy made a huge difference. We miss you both already.

Mieke was an amazing Workawayer and a wonderful person to host. She was always friendly, cheerful, and ready to help with whatever was needed. Her positive energy made a real difference, and she contributed greatly both through her work and her presence. During her stay, we had the opportunity to visit Chicama and surf the famous longest left-hand wave in the world. I was very proud of how well Mieke surfed and how confidently she embraced the experience. Her passion for surfing and willingness to challenge herself were inspiring to see. What stood out most was how naturally she connected with people. She became a beloved member of our surf community, and both locals and visitors enjoyed having her around. She was respectful, sociable, and always brought a smile to people’s faces. I would happily host Mieke again and strongly recommend her to any future host looking for someone reliable, kind, and full of positive energy.

Michael was an absolute pleasure to host. From day one, he was friendly, positive, and always willing to help with any task that needed to be done. He approached every job with a great attitude and was reliable, hardworking, and easy to communicate with. One of the highlights of his stay was our trip to Chicama, where he got to surf the world’s longest left-hand wave. I was genuinely impressed by his surfing and how much enthusiasm he brought to every session in the water. Beyond the work and surfing, Michael became a valued part of our community. He got along with everyone, showed respect to the local culture, and quickly became popular with our surf community. Many people here spoke highly of him, and it was clear that he left a positive impression wherever he went. I highly recommend Michael to any future host. He is kind, trustworthy, hardworking, and a great person to have around.

Manu was a fantastic Workawayer and a great addition to our team. He was always willing to lend a hand, worked hard, and brought a positive and friendly attitude to everything he did. He was easy to work with and quickly became part of the family here. One of my favorite memories from his stay was our surf trip to Chicama. Watching Manu surf the world’s longest left-hand wave was a real pleasure, and I was proud of how well he performed in the water. His passion for surfing and commitment to improving were evident throughout his stay. Manu also integrated incredibly well into our local community. Our surf community absolutely loved him, and he built great relationships with everyone he met. His respectful attitude, friendliness, and genuine interest in connecting with people made him very popular among both locals and fellow travelers. I can wholeheartedly recommend Manu to any host. He is hardworking, trustworthy, friendly, and an all-around great person to have around.

We couldn't have had a better guy to help with a big job!! No messing with Eric! He gets stuck in and gets on with whatever the task. Plus we had a good laugh too...

Reza is a fine gentleman from Iran. With his excellent manners, open mind and hands on approach Reza is a great pleasure to have around. Immediately after his arrival on a Sunday afternoon he jumped into the cold water of helping us to prepare a Vernissage for the next day, where he was running the attentive and kind service without any need for further briefing. Reza sees work, fixes things, loves cooking and is great with people. We are very happy, that he will soon be back.
