I stayed with Steve for two weeks at his secondary residence. It’s a very beautiful place, surrounded by nature, with a simple and self-sufficient lifestyle. It was a great experience. The outdoor work was interesting.

Steven and Alexandra were my first host family in Australia. They are both very intelligent people. Steven is a talented architect, so you can learn lots of interesting things about building and real estate. Alexandra is very into books and has a huge general knowledge.

… read more build a deck and renovate a flat. There were also many other different tasks, from painting to insulating a wall with styrofoam, oiling fences, sanding or carrying furniture, etc..
It was also a good feeling that an architect like Steven liked my idea and initiative to do the driveway. All in all, I really enjoyed working with Steven - whether it was outside on the deck or in the garden or in the flat that we renovated.
We made a trip to Bayview or a big reef together. He also offered to drive me down the hill to the bus stop if necessary. They gave me complete trust for the house. I could use the kitchen whenever I liked.
We also went to his beautiful off-grid property in Billys Creek which was a really exciting jungle adventure. We made a trip to the waterfalls in Dorrigo or into the Dorrigo rainforest. At his property in Billys Creek we insulated walls or made lots of fire wood.
Their children Sophie and Alexander are both very friendly. Alexander gave me a a special adapter to charge my phone and he liked the coins that I gave him that I collected during travelling to different countries. Sophie gave me some beautiful shells that she found on the beach. When Alexander and I were waiting for Steven and his mum to come out of the hospital, we had the idea to play hide and seek. In that way, the time we had to wait went by very quickly.
Alexandra made a very tasty dinner every day - even if she just came home from work herself. I have never eaten such good potato wedges! Steven's mum is a hairdresser and she gave me a free haircut.
I enjoyed staying with Steven and his family and I can recommend this host to all other people who like building, landscaping and real estate.
I wish the whole family all the best for the future!

During our time in Dorrigo, Nico's reliability and adaptability shone through once again. His assistance in fixing plasterboard in the new bedrooms was invaluable. He approached the task with attentiveness, quickly grasping the techniques required and displaying a genuine willingness to contribute. Regardless of the challenges that arose, Nico maintained a positive attitude, showing resilience and making the project a success.
Beyond his helpful nature, Nico's intellectual curiosity was inspiring. His voracious reading habits and diverse range of interests fuelled engaging conversations, making our time together both enriching and enjoyable. Exploring the rainforest walk in Dorrigo, embarking on trout fishing trips, and discovering new beaches and places became even more memorable with his company.
The rapport Nico built with our neighbours was extraordinary. They were drawn to his charismatic personality and warm demeanour, often expressing their fondness and admiration. However, Nico remained loyal to our shared objectives, assisting me in completing the ceilings before our departure—a task I would have struggled to accomplish alone.
Based on my observations, I have great confidence in Nico's future success, regardless of the path he chooses. His helpfulness, positive mindset, and ability to adapt make him an individual destined for achievements. He was always very polite, great with the kids, and was a great guy to have around. It was a lot of fun paddling with him, as he took on the challenge of trying out a very tippy racing ski with great determination. After falling into the water at least two dozen times, he finally mastered it and became proficient very quickly.

There was always something to do around the house but it was my pleasure to help and contribute. I definitely had enough free time to go to the beaches around. They even let me use their surfboard, piano and Netflix. I went paddling with Steven two times at the lagoon and Harbour nearby which I enjoyed very much and will remember as one of the highlights of my time in Australia. … read more Morgan is an experienced tradesman he could work without supervision throughout the whole process and when it came to more complex tasks like building the balustrade, he only needed to be told how we wanted it to look and he knew exactly what to do, taking great pride in doing a professional job. Aurelie worked by Morgans side at all times and was not only a great help but a professional translator who converted all our mutterings into a melodic stream of beautiful French works that only Morgan could understand.
Both Aurelie and Morgan were polite and pleasant at all times. They were lovely people to have around we feel very blessed to have had them as they were instrumental in the transformation of our grotty flat into something really nice.

His English is fluent and he is a great conversationalist, so most meal times were filled with interesting and entertaining conversations due to Dirks quick wit and vast experience. Being a physicist and climate scientist his analytic skills are excellent, but unlike most academics, his practical skills are top notch and he has a passion for making things and getting things done.
We found Dirk to be a Godsend and expect most hosts would feel the same.

In Billy's Creek we did some work everyday and when the wheather was good he took me on trips to the most beautiful places in the area. … read more It's a little cute house with own bathroom within their big garden, they've built it up and designed it themselves with lots of love and creativity, which makes that place really special.
So as they have the Granny Flat, their house and a huge garden there is of course always something to do. During my stay I did not only support Alexandra and Steven regarding Marketing for their businesses, I also learned new home working and home improvement stuff e.g. by helping building a wooden garden bed for the Granny Flat or grinding the wooden floors there, which was a lot of fun as well.
Another fact I really enjoyed was that Alexandra and Steven take really time to get to know you and will spend time with you as well. We had great food all the time, as Alexandra is an awesome cook, cooking new creative and also classic Australian BBQ recipes, which was always such a treat! Sooo good! I enjoyed every single meal. Oh and also dining on their big terrace, where you have an awesome view! You can even see the sea from there. So walking to the beach doesn't take long as well :)

I got the impression that he treated the other helpers, who's English and social skills were not as advanced as his, with genuine care and consideration. He made their stay enjoyable by suggesting activities such as walks to the beach, making sure that all were included. His manners at the dinner table were impeccable, and in no way pompous. He always considered others at the table and put them before himself, made intelligent and humorous conversation making those around him comfortable and at ease. I was impressed by this excellent young man and recommend him highly.
