    Description

Come join us at our enchanting fairy cottage homestead, nestled in the rolling hills of one of Denmark's most scenic vistas.
The cottage is about 200 years old, with a small wood that includes an old orchard of pear, walnut, apple, hazelnut, and cherry trees.
We are a family of 2 humans (Noah, an American/North Carolinian & Marie, a Dane) in our 30's, 4 cats, 1 dog, some songbirds, an owl, a flock of chickens, and some families of bees.

Right now we need people who are willing to learn or already have experience in renovation and carpentry as we are installing drywall and wall panelling as well as wood flooring. There is likely still brickwork to be done as well.
If you have thatching experience, that would also be wonderful, as we’re setting up to remove the old thatch and have a company put on new.
We are very keen to establish an outdoor sauna within the next 8-24 months, but currently must prioritize renovating rooms in the house.

All of our outdoor projects have started again now this spring. We follow the "no dig method" (as espoused by Charles Dowding) and the “Eden gardening method” and can teach about both of them.
This spring we are establishing a market garden, and are now in the phase of germinating/sprouting plants in the greenhouse; to be transplanted outdoors in May.

Outside of carpenters for the renovation job, we are looking for people interested in tending the garden, watering, weeding, harvesting, cleaning up fallen tree debris in the forest, cutting and storing firewood, removing and transporting soil.

We will also put up a flower garden, plant berry bushes, expand the orchard, build a duck house, clean up fallen trees in the forest and do general landscaping and gardening work through the summer.
Our objective is to create a healing environment that prioritizes lifestyle health, abundance, beauty, sustainability, and self-sufficiency.

Marie is a singer/flutist/saxophonist in a rock band, a professional cook and learned Naturopath; well-informed on biochemistry. Noah is an avid outdoorsman and survivalist, studied economics, and is presently pursuing a Wim Hof Method certification.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We can teach about the no-dig method, Wim Hof breathing techniques, climate friendly cooking, general kitchen skills, or just inspire from our way of living which is busy and productive, but also meaningful and sometimes a bit primitive.
This is an opportunity to learn some basics of renovating as well as raising chickens and running a garden.
We can also teach you how to grow microgreens (which we used to do professionally) as well as how to enjoy outdoor bonfires, weather permitting.

  • Help

    Help

We purchased this place last year, and it has some history of neglect, and so our more immediate goals include renovating the buildings and cottage interior. More specifically paneling the walls, and working with insulation.
We will also need a lot of help in the garden. This will primarily be physically demanding jobs like transporting wheel barrows of compost, digging down plants and so forth, since we are starting up the gardens. We will also need help with watering.

We can offer tents, and we are currently working on including two rooms and a primitive kitchen in our outdoor building.

    What else ...

While tucked away, the property is not particularly isolated. Odense (the capital of Fyn) is a 35min drive away, but most modern amenities and conveniences are a 7min drive to the nearby harbor town of Faaborg--from where it's possible to take the ferry to several islands in the Fyn archipelago. There is plenty of nearby hiking in the surrounding “Svanninge Bakker” area, both in the hills behind our property as well as the forests across the street in front. Bikes are available for going to town, and we do have Wi-Fi.
