    Description

Ours is an ever-changing and growing volunteer family.
Initially, we worked with rescue horses, but all the horses have been re-homed, and the focus now is on making the farm self-sustaining! There is a lot of work ahead of us, but if you have handyman skills, artistic skills, or an eagerness to help in any of the following, we welcome you.

We are looking for help with the following tasks:

    GARDENING TASKS:

    Prune Orange Trees
    Clear blackberry vines.
    Cut down/uproot Bamboo
    Cut grass using whipper snipper/mower.
Renew / restart vegetable garden (Abandoned for a year or so).
Renew Green House (needs some new plastic on top/weeds/blackberry vines removed, soil turned over).

Someone with knowledge of vegetable gardening or permaculture would be greatly valued, as we have limited knowledge in this area. We would like to get the vegetable garden providing most of the households vegetable needs. The soil is very fertile and spinach/kale/beet is already popping up out of the ground unassisted/unplanted by us.

    ARTISTIC TASKS:

Paint the outside of camper van in garden in an interesting design.
Painting of new sign for front gate of property.

    BUILDING/DIY TASKS:

Fit out camper van (there are 2) into comfortable sleeping area for more workawayers.
Both camper vans are empty/have been stripped and are ready for fit out.
Repair previous campervan/caravan area into nice functional space for workawayers.
Creating of Wooden Deck/Platform for group eating area.
    Redo fencing areas.
Finishing construction of Chicken Coop (80% complete).
Building of simple platform/deck around camper van using wooden pallets for workawayers.
Patch bottom of pool with fibreglass repair kit and repaint bottom of swimming pool (to get ready for summer for workawayers to swim in!)
Use scrap wood to create simple furniture - tables/chairs etc for around the land.
    Create outdoor shower area.
    Create outdoor composting/dry toilet solution.
Restoration/support of roof support beams for outdoor pool shed.
Create outdoor kitchen/dining space in pool shed space.
    Install locks on windows.

    GENERAL MAINTENANCE TASKS:

    Clear out woodshed and reorganise.
Cut old scrap wood into useable lengths for fireplace.

    PLUMBING TASKS:

Run/repair extra water/irrigration lines into vegetable garden once complete.
Plumb outdoor shower area once built.

We are not Portuguese, and are only beginners at the language; but we are always interested in learning more about Portugal, its language and its culture, and exploring Portugal with you.
If you have somewhere you would like to visit, we are open to day trips.

  • Help

    Help

Come and help decorate the grounds and the house!
Now painting and decorating, inside and out, are next.

There are several vans and a camper which would look great painted in bright colours, and we want to create inviting spaces around the vans and the existing buildings, by planting edible flowers and shade trees.

Artists and would-be artists welcome (even if you have no previous experience!)

We also want to build platforms for tents and yurts.

Our garden is a work in progress. Two dry summers have taken their toll, and we need to start rebuilding the garden.

    The house requires daily upkeep.

    If you can help with:

    - Building projects
    - Cooking and food preservation (e.g.: Pickles, Jams)
    - House upkeep
    - Planting, weeding and general garden care
    - Picking fruit in season
    - Light maintenance work
    - Building wooden structures
    - Brick and cement work
    - Painting & decorating
    .......we welcome you!

The nearest villages are Odiaxere and Mexilhoeira Grande. Both are about a 20 to 30 minute walk from the farm. There are a few little shops and cafes in both towns, and an Italian pizza place in Odiaxere, which does take-away.

We are about 11 km. from Portimao, and 8 km. from Lagos.

The local bus stop is less than10 minutes walk, and buses to Odiaxere, Lagos, and Portimao are frequent. The train station in Mexilhoeira Grande is 2.8km. away. There are trains and buses that go all along the Algarve to Spain.
We have bicycles for your use.

We also offer occasional full-day outings to points of interest. Tell us what where you would like to go, and we can arrange some day trips!

We are 75 km from the nearest airport, in Faro, and 3.5 hours by bus from Lisbon.
