We have set up a artistic cafe making delicious locally sourced food for breakfast and lunch with visiting artists in the picturesque rural town of Callan. The part we have turned into an artistic cafe is downstairs and we live in the house upstairs :) There is a large outdoor courtyard with flower garden and outbuildings. A cosy vintage kitchen with wood stove and a sitting room with an open fire.
It is a quaint and pretty building in the centre of Callan town where we have kept the original charm, we have been slowly renovating it over the years and are ready for our next big step :) It used to be a pub and grocer and we have organised many community projects, gigs, recitals, sessions, parties and artists residencies over the years and want to establish it as a cultural and exciting hub for art and food and conversation in the community.
It is a very exciting project and we would love you to be part of it!

Callan is an interesting and vibrant town with restaurants, cafés and pubs as well as two caring communities L'arche and Camphill and many artistic endeavours, including KCAT, Tony O'Malley painters residency and Callan Workhouse Union.
There is a free English language class in our town community resource we can sign you up for if you are interested in improving your English and we will be happy to assist with building your vocabulary too :)
We have a film night every week where we invite some friends around to watch a film and share food and during your stay we can introduce you to artists, interesting people and other volunteers from the creative endeavours in the town. There will be opportunities to socialise with new friends.
We will be compiling our new menu while you will be staying and will be trying out traditional Irish recipes as well as visiting local farms and food producers so you will gain an insight into Irish cuisine and be a valuable taste tester for us from time to time :)
There is a strong community spirit in Callan and we will be preparing a St. Patricks Day float for the town in Kilkenny's parade, which will be a nice opportunity to meet other creative people too.
This is a great opportunity to experience life in a traditional Irish town with the added benefit of being involved the development of an exciting cultural and culinary community hub :)

We need help with ongoing building and renovations.
We are looking for people with some building and carpentry experience and a good optimistic attitude. Carpentry (panelling, shelving and light building). We will be fixing up under counter shelving, panelling at least two walls, replacing a ceiling and general small improvements in the cafe space. We will also be roofing our courtyard cinema screen with galvanised sheeting, re-claying our outdoor clay oven and adding an arch of firebricks and working on developing a kitchen in one of our outbuildings! We are hoping to start renovation the old hay barn at the end of the courtyard into a performance and workshop space.
There will be paid work comprising of five hours per week in the coffee house and the other 20 hours will be spent helping with the ongoing renovations, painting, housework, assisting with artistic events, talks , screenings etc.
We love people who are passionate about organic produce and farm to table sustainable practices. There will still be ongoing renovations too, its a journey not a destination :)
We have a strong vision and need some help now realising the last step!
