Description
Hello travelers!
We are on 40 acres overlooking Moogerah Dam in the Scenic Rim South East QLD. Our property is situated 1.5 hours from Brisbane and 1.5 hours from Gold Coast with amazing views!
Our property is a hobby farm which has many animals including horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, cat and a dairy rescue cow. We have our own veggie and herb gardens (not in use due to drought). This is not always in growth due to our busy schedules.
We prefer that helpers stay a minimum of 2 weeks and please only send us a message if you are confident with animals and if you are happy and willing to undertake daily and weekly duties.
Your day will start at around 6.30am from then you will help undertake below; (not as early on weekends)
• feeding all animals that require feeding (horses and goats will depend on paddock conditions)
• rugging and un-rugging horses pending weather
• walking the dogs morning and afternoon
• collecting horse poo regularly.
• cleaning the house each Friday
• spraying weeds in paddocks and clearing weeds
• clearing paddocks rocks and weeds
If you are experienced with horses that would be wonderful as it is always helpful to have extra help with experienced horse people. Unfortunately, our horses are not horses that you can go trail riding on, but we can show you how to feed them and some other groundwork.
We would love to experience the culture of guests and treat them to time on a hobby farm in exchange to help around the property. Some of the other things we would like help with include.
• Clearing weeds in paddocks
• Fencing
• Collecting rock from paddocks
• Gardening
• Painting
• Cooking
Our house is quite large, and helpers will be able to retreat to their own space in a loft area partitioned off and there is unlimited WIFI. There is a king single bed in this area, but we can accommodate another helper with a mattress in the same area.
In exchange for 4 to 5 hours of work per day, we will provide you with breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you’d like any additional snacks, you’re welcome to bring them with you. As you could imagine due to the cost of living, we cannot provide you with snack food so please feel free to bring all the goodies you like. If you choose to eat outside the family home, please keep in mind that you will need to purchase these meals yourself.
During the week, helpers will be at the property, sometimes by themselves due to our work schedules. If you do not have your own transportation access to the local town is not possible without a car, so you will need to work with us to get you there. Alicia works away 2 to 3 nights a week and the family can get pretty busy so some evenings we will eat together and you’re welcome to join the family, but breakfast and lunch, most of the time you will organize yourself.
Helpers can relax enjoy and explore for the remainder of your time with us. You will be staying within the family home and so we appreciate that helpers tidying up after themselves, keeping kitchen bathroom, and living areas clean and tidy. We like to keep a tidy house especially a clean kitchen and bathroom.
Our property is on TANK WATER and due drought / minimal rain we do ask our helpers to be conservative with the use of water.
We ask that you please KEEP your SHOWER SHORT 2-minute showers and do not leave taps running.
Our house consists of four bedrooms, three living areas, two entertaining decks with an outdoor spa and a games loft.
Alicia enjoys cooking but also welcomes guests also to cook. There is fresh food as we loved to eat wholefood diet and cooking from scratch! Some days we will eat vegetarian meals, so please keep that in mind. (Vegetarians and or Vegans are welcome).
Our daughter rides horses competitively and for leisure and if you have experience with horses that would be wonderful as working with horses and managing her busy schedule she can run out of time.
Our son loves to play Basketball, Xbox, ride his motorbikes and play soccer and cricket.
