    Description

This is a very old beautiful 13th-17th century house, located in the heart of the Basque Country about 30 minutes by car from the border with Spain, and 30 minutes from the coast (Bayonne, Biarritz). We have been hosting helpers for more than 15 years on different platforms, and it's now in the DNA of the house.
The house is a joyful mix, of living areas, and shared areas for different weekly associative activities (dance, yoga, and herbalism classes) and of beautiful outside spaces, a big organic vegetable garden, a terrassed garden with lots of fruit trees, and a outside amphitheater, where we organize concerts and live shows in the summer with our non-profit cultural association called Soropila.

Our idea of hosting helpers, is rooted in a dynamic of exchange and sharing, we usually always prepare meals and eat together, and we are always happy to show the volunteers around the local areas, or give them tips to what to do in their free time.
The basque country is great for beautiful hikes, rivers, ans seaside, it's a very dynamic rural area with lots of events, festivals and concerts in the summer.

The help will largely be composed of gardening, and general outside tasks when the weather allows it, and it cases of bad weather preparing conserves (jam, chutneys, compote, jellies, syrups...) and helping in the house (maintenance, cleaning...). Though we do host paying guests from time to time, the volunteers will not be expected to help neither on the maintenance of the spaces for these guests, neither for the cooking or hosting in general.

Usually we ask for about 20h a week, the rhythm can be decided together when you get here. We would prefer to host for a minimum of 3 weeks, but don't hesitate to ask if that's not possible for you.

    Here's a little description of us :
Melissa : I love cooking, walking in the mountain, and learning new things, I worked in theater for a while and now I'm setting up an association to try and continue with this project in the Basque Country.
Carlos : I am a visual artist, I love DIY, I like teamwork, learning from people and teaching what I can.
Jane : I really enjoy gardening, I have a big organic garden that I love spending time in. I do printing and batik in the art workshop we have in the house, I'd be happy to share skills.

Looking forward to meeting you !
    Melissa, Carlos and Jane
