Improve your Italian (& hopefully teach Andrea some English), learn to cook local Maremmana specialities, immerse yourself into Italian way of life - and interact with our guests from across the globe who appreciate the "refugio speciale" we created.

Our agriturismo is nestled into an olive and oak grove on the outskirts of an authentic Tuscan hill town with amenities (alimentari, café bar, restaurant, post office and Etruscan museum) & limited public transport into neighboring towns or to the coast.

Ciao, my name is Andrea, a former fisherman and the proprietor of this nature retreat, a labor of love project founded in 2012 together with my wife on a steep piece of land with endless nature views, slowly renovating, building and expanding over the years.

We initially restored two ancient stone structures on our property, rustic sheep shelters nestled into our vast tree grove, turning each small structure into a minimalist guest accommodation for our slowly growing agriturismo.

In the past years we added three more structures to the agriturismo, building/restoring each cottage ourselves, using locally sourced, sustainable materials and now hosting guests in five self catering cottages who enjoy the rustic retreat in the midst of quiet nature.

Sadly my wife is no longer with us, but today I feel fortunate to share the special place we created together in her memory with guests from all over the world who appreciate its natural beauty and embrace its rustic simplicity.

During the guest season (April to October) we welcome help around the agriturismo and during the winter months we are grateful for helping hands around the upkeep of the property, from repair/restoration/building projects to landscaping and construction.

In exchange we offer a private accommodation on the property with bathroom and kitchenette, along with all meals and an authentic cultural immersion into family life in a Tuscan hill town.

During the guest season we can host a single volunteer (or two friends/couple), preferably for longer stays of 2-3 months, and in the winter we can sometimes welcome multiple volunteers.

Andrea’s 84 year old mother in law (Rita) is the reigning queen of the agriturismo, a charming signora who may be slow on her feet, but who is sharp witted and enjoys the attention of our multi cultural agriturismo guests ~ and especially our WorkAwayers.

Several (outdoor) cats live in the grove and there are Gina and Stella, resident mom and daughter donkeys who roam the property and are loved by all guests.

    >>> Please note: prospective volunteers ideally already have some knowledge of the Italian language to help Andrea communicate with guests

On your days off you can explore the Maremma, Toscana's wild coastal area, with untouched natural parks, coastal preserves and enchanted hill towns.

Castiglione della Pescaia is the closest seaside town, a charming port town 20 minutes away with historical center and access to beautiful beaches.

Massa Marittima is the region’s capital, a beautiful medieval city with a striking piazza and beautiful duomo, but without the tourist crowds of other Tuscan towns.

Siena is just an hour away - and Rome, Pisa and Florence make for great day/overnight trips.
