    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You will learn all about log gasification boilers and what it takes to sustain them.
If you are keen, you can take part in servicing the combustion chamber.

I teach music and welcome musicians. Jams around out door fires are encouraged.

We are right on top of Hadrian's wall, history is everywhere.
You will learn about Reivers and Lords and also great artists.
The light here is amazing for painting.
A preferred art spot for Morris, Burne Jones, Rossetti and the Nicholsons.
Even Bertrand Russell is connected to this place.

I am an international lady. Not really British. I have lived in several countries.
Here you will find a lively cultural exchange of minds that seeks to unite nations through awareness and understanding.

  • Help

Lighting a large log boiler each morning and throwing in second burn when it is cold, help manage fuel for our log gasification boiler heating system [basically toting and stacking logs] and general strong help around this overgrown homestead and woodlands. We can provide ACCOMMODATION ONLY for 8 hours help a WEEK [ with perhaps the odd group meal or bonfire thrown in for fun])

If you are hooking up your own caravan, electricity and logs for your own fire are fine but will 'cost' extra hours.

A heated caravan with a fixed double bed in a heated poly-tunnel structure and access to our Gled-glamorous shed- also heated with wifi, sat tv and a spare single bed. Basic cooking facilities, fridge/freezer, extra water tap and a good hot shower in the poly tunnel. Washing machine in the byre with drying space in the Gled or outside. Outside the lockable caravan door, there is a flagged, fire pit- leading to loads of space for a garden- leading down some steps to a little river- leading to a woodland. We accept some animals.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The farm is situated right on the Roman Wall Walking route. Local sites include various Mile Castles [Our farm hosts the tallest bit of the wall still standing.], Birdoswald Fort [3miles], Lanercost Priory and tea rooms [3/4 mile]. We have two woodlands[One ancient. One not] both with rivers. One was replanted with indigenous trees 30 years ago and leads to a roman quarry. We have 2 rods in the river Irthing [1/2 mile]. if you like fly fishing. The land next to the river Irthing is part of the remaining 3% of English wetland so there are otters, badgers and heron as well as trout in the river.
The lake district is an hour away. Scotland is 30 minutes in the opposite direction.
