    Description

    Hello, Travelers!

My name is Axel. I was born in Argentina and have been a nomad working as a freelance photographer for nearly ten years. I recently settled in Asturias, in a townhouse in Bierces, a rural area with just over fifteen houses.

This place is ideal for travelers or digital nomads looking for a quiet retreat while planning their next destination or continuing their journey through northern Spain. There are no shops here and hardly any neighbors. You will find a serene environment filled with tranquility and natural beauty, making it the perfect spot to unwind, explore scenic trails, or immerse yourself in reading and writing.

Since I have just moved in, I am gradually repairing the house, transforming and adapting the spaces, painting, preparing the garden, and finishing the construction of a chicken coop. Additionally, I am building a studio where I plan to record podcasts and videos. This is not intended to be a business; rather, it is a personal project aimed at developing creative ideas.

At the moment, I cannot host couples or more than one volunteer at a time, as the bedroom is small and accommodates only a single bed, as shown in the photo.

Having been a Workaway volunteer across various countries for several years, I understand the importance of clear communication and setting accurate expectations. My goal is to provide you with a detailed and honest description of what you can expect upon arrival and throughout your stay. I aim to offer the same positive experiences and support that I valued as a volunteer.

    Volunteer Details:

Duration of Stay: Ideally 2 or 3 weeks, with flexibility.

Work: Approximately 2/3 hours of volunteer work per day, with flexibility in tasks and schedule.

    Tasks: House maintenance, gardening.

Meals: Basic meals are included during your stay. Available ingredients include brown rice, whole wheat pasta, seasonal fruits and vegetables, eggs, oats, legumes, coffee, tea, infusions, soy and oat drinks, etc.

We maintain a healthy diet at home, do not smoke, and do not consume alcohol. While we respect everyone's habits, we prefer to avoid these in our environment.

If you're interested in joining us, please let me know your location and preferred arrival dates.

    All the best,

    Axel

Asturias lives up to its motto, "Natural Paradise," offering stunning beaches within a 30-minute drive, the majestic Picos de Europa and other mountains just another 30 minutes away, and an abundance of rivers and charming towns throughout the region.

The capital, Oviedo, is renowned as one of the cleanest cities in Europe. The local people are exceptionally friendly and helpful, making it a welcoming haven for digital nomads. Additionally, local laws are evolving to support remote workers who wish to move and settle here.

I can also help you practice and improve your Spanish skills.

  • Help

    Help

Currently, as I work full-time online running a digital marketing agency, the help I might need is to keep the house a little tidy, keep the wood stove on during the day so that it continues to heat the house, and cook at least once a day would be wonderful. It would be possible to do something outside in the garden, although honestly there is not much to do if you like working with wood, I have the project of building a table with recycled wood from pallets. I have already made several tables, and the wood is ready, you just have to assemble it and screw it together.
It is important to know that here in Asturias, it is usually humid and a bit cold.
I repeat, this place is ideal for those independent travelers, who enjoy silence and reading or also working online since I have another desk to do so as well as Wifi.
Sometimes you may find yourself working independently for a few hours, allowing you the flexibility to organize your volunteer hours according to your schedule, whether in the mornings or afternoons. Additionally, you can walk or take the bike to Infiesto town at any time, and I can pick you up later in the evenings.

The nearest town is Infiesto, the capital of the Piloña council, located just 4 km away—about a 10-minute drive. You can also reach it on foot via scenic trails. Infiesto offers a variety of amenities, including supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes, restaurants, health services, a bus stop, and a train station.

Oviedo, the regional capital, is approximately 45 km away and is easily accessible by bus or train. The city boasts numerous cultural and leisure activities, popular festivals, and a variety of markets and fairs throughout the year.

My home is a traditional village house, once inhabited by families engaged in agriculture and livestock, including cows, donkeys, and horses.

Downstairs, you'll find a kitchen-dining area where we have all our meals and conduct food-related activities, as well as a room that I use as a studio.

On the upper floor, there is a bedroom for myself and a room designated for volunteers. Additionally, we have converted a hallway into a cozy reading room, with plans to add a work desk, and there is also a bathroom.
