  • Description

Ideally situated if you plan to arrive/ leave Bulgaria via Greece or Macedonia. We are Sara and John , a British couple who, along with various friends (British and Bulgarian) and family when they are free are aiming to create an alternative lifestyle in the amazing Bulgarian countryside by setting up an eco-campsite, using permaculture and recycling principles whenever possible.

We are a small campsite and guest house in the far South West of Bulgaria. We are only 10 K from the Greek border and we enjoy trips to the Greek coast. We also have a mineral water swimming pool at the end of the street open June to September, as well as the smallest 'town’ in Bulgaria, Melnik, famed for its unusual rock formations and wine making just up the road.

UPDATE- now looking for volunteers from August and into the autumn

Since we opened in April 2016 we are now looking for responsible, friendly volunteers to help with the day to day running of the campsite and guest rooms.
This will involve welcoming people and checking them in and answering any queries they may have. You will need to speak reasonable English since most of our guests communicate in this. Some days we are empty others we may have 5 or 6 groups of people- we never really know as most don't book in advance. Help required also involves keeping the place clean and tidy and generally being available if we are not and looking after the dogs and cats.

We also have various ongoing projects including building fences, developing the organic garden and recycling area

We will also have a coule of art projects for 2018, including painting a large wall in the garden, a sculpture and more mosaic work as well as making things (furniture) out of old wood so creative types very welcome.

You will helping alongside us and our friends and family if any of them are around. We like to eat fresh local produce and would hope that you would contribute to the cooking rota with your favourite dishes. We can cater for vegetarians and vegans and usually provide food for all meals, sharing the cooking, washing up and cleaning of communal spaces.

  • Accommodation

We have a double bedroom with inside toilet and showers and we also have tents if you prefer to camp or if the room is being used already.
We have a computer available for you to use as well as bikes to explore the local countryside.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We would expect you to do approximately 25 hours work a week (unless you are house/ pet sitting when your time will be free apart from walking/ feeding the animals and keeping the place in order) , hours to suit us all and we occasionally go on trips out to local and not so local towns and places of interest that you may be able to join us on. There is a daily bus that stops at the edge of the village and goes all the way to Sofia , alternatively you can reach Sandanski and Petrich, the two local towns, by bus and Kromidovo village has two small shops and a couple of bars as well as the mineral baths open June to mid September. The smallest town in Bulgaria, Melnik is a bike ride away and well worth a visit with its stunning sand pyramids, traditional architecture and of course wine! There are also 5 or 5 excellent wineries within a short distance.
We may occasionally ask volunteers to take charge if we need to go away for a few days
We are always keen to welcome new faces and enjoy sharing our life style whilst learning about other cultures and lives.
