I am 47, have a 1 acre smallholding including garden with vegetable beds, orchard and paddock. I keep chickens, ducks, bees and Oxford Sandy & Black pigs.
Situated on the edge of Ringwood Forest, on the Dorset/Hampshire border it is a beautiful area to walk, run or cycle in - and just a short drive from the New Forest National Park. Salisbury is approximately 11 miles to the north.
I work full time and since my wonderful husband recently passed away, I find I am in need of some extra help around the place.
I am specifically looking for someone (or a couple) to 'house-sit' and look after the animals and garden 23 June-30 June 2018. (I suggest arrival 1-2 days beforehand so I can show you what to do, show you around the local area, etc.)
I will also require the same in September 2018, dates TBC.
Please contact me if you are interested! :)
Garden chores would include: weeding, strimming, mowing, pruning.
Animal chores would include: feeding the animals and ensuring they have fresh water daily (pigs need feeding twice a day).
Also help with mucking out pigs, cleaning out chickens and pump/filter for the ducks' water weekly would be a bonus! :)
If you are practical and like building/making things, I would like a small smoker for meat, etc. built and my greenhouse is in need of some TLC.
Other maintenance chores such as painting timber shed, treating patio furniture, etc. - depending on the weather!
English (native). Fluent Greek, a little French & Italian
The Stable is a self-catering holiday let which would be made available for workawayers to stay in whilst helping out.
It has its own kitchen facilities. There is a TV and there is wi-fi (although sketchy - we are in the country after all!). You may prefer to self-cater for some or all of your meals, or you may prefer to eat together; I would also be happy to be cooked for! The Stable is perfect for one person or a couple.
As I work full time, you need to be an independent, self-assured, self-sufficient workawayer (or couple).
Your own car is essential as the village centre shop, pub, etc. is a mile away and there is no public transport.
Any questions please ask! :)
We are located on the edge of the village without a regular bus service. Therefore, you will need to cycle (we can provide you with a bicycle) or walk. If you have your own car that is even better, there is an off-road parking space available. The nearest grocery/village shop is a mile away. Fordingbridge town is about 3.5 miles and Ringwood market town is about 8 miles. Salisbury is about 11 miles. There is a direct bus service (X3) to Bournemouth and Salisbury from Fordingbridge and there is a National Express coach service from Ringwood. Salisbury has a mainline railway station serving the west county and London (Waterloo) :)
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Having lived and worked abroad myself in the past, it will be a great opportunity to meet workawayers from other parts of the world and to find out about their culture, heritage, views and experiences. I used to teach English as a foreign language in Greece.
For workawayers, being so close to Ringwood Forest and the New Forest National Park there is plenty of beautiful countryside to be explored as well as the medieval city of Salisbury and prehistoric Stonehenge to the north and Southampton and Bournemouth to the south.
Maximum 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week
