Description
We live and work on a 600ha sheep and beef farm in Otago, New Zealand. We run around 4000 ewes and have 100 breeding cows (predominantly Limousin). We have farm dogs, cat, chooks, pet lambs and a pony for the girls .... I think that is about it - a good selection of farm animals!
We have 2 children aged 14 and 12.
We often need help in the spring when we have some environmental and shelter planting projects underway. Spring is busy also with lambing and calving and then subsequent tailing of lambs - another job that is fun to help with! ;-)
Also the summer is a busy time on the farm (weaning and crutching of lambs) and around the garden with many other jobs that need to be done such as weed control and firewood etc.
We are able to pick workawayers up from nearby destinations. However if you have your own vehicle this would be advantageous as we don't have any spare vehicles available for weekends off. But we are happy to provide transport where needed.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We try to give workawayers a great NZ farm experience where they get to be involved in everyday farm life and activities in exchange for helping us with a few odd jobs. We are very interested in sharing our knowledge of sheep and beef farming and like to give workawayers an opportunity to be involved in all the farming activities where possible. Activities like moving stock, working with stock in yards to weigh or administer animal health. There may be fencing to be done. We have native planting projects that require maintaining and often the extra hands of a workawayer or two can make this maintenance faster and more rewarding for all! We are environmentally focused and enjoy exchanging information on this.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Depending on the season - it could be helping on the farm spraying weeds, splitting firewood, fencing or planting natives in wetland or shelterbelt areas. We have a large garden and so there can be a lot of work there with mowing lawns and weeding etc.

What else ...
We are about 2 hours away from Wanaka/ Queenstown and Dunedin. Also just over 2 hours to Te Anau which is where there are many walks and the Fiordland National Park. Only just over the hill (1 hour) is Central Otago which is famous for wine growing and summerfruit growing. We are also only 1 hour from the Catlins.

The jobs were never too hard at all and Judy is always there to do the most boring ones together and not leaving you alone doing them.

Nina and Lisa seemed older than their years and were keen to give things a go. They did a marvellous job of looking after our calves and seemed to really enjoy working with the animals. #Judy, Clark, Hazelle y Lilah son una familia hermosa! Desde el primer momento sentí que estaba con amigos de toda la vida. Sinceramente disfruté muchísimo de ayudarlos con el trabajo en su casa y la granja.
