Description
We are a couple with a home in Mt Eden and an eco cottage and conservation area on the West coast near Piha on the Anawhata Rd. We are involved in environmental restoration, track formation, tree planting, gardening and general maintenance. The 2 sites give volunteers the chance to explore central Auckland and to walk among the beaches and bush of the West Coast in their time off.
Types of help and learning opportunities
Help with Eco ProjectsGardeningDIY and building projectsGeneral MaintenanceCultural exchange and learning opportunities
Our helpers would experience staying in an eco cottage above the beautiful Whites Beach with the opportunity to explore the Waitakeres and west coast beaches. they would learn about New Zealand environmental issues and the systems involved in running an energy sustainable cottage. We are well traveled and happy to discuss their ongoing travel plans.
We eat well.. growing many of our vegetables.
They could also use our Mt Eden home as a base for exploring Auckland and the gulf islands.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Volunteers need to enjoy the outdoors, have some outdoor skills and be competent at least with an ax and spade. Likely tasks include helping with track building, wood chopping, maintaining plantings of native trees as well as some general maintenance such as painting. So strength and fitness are needed to make a happy fit between work and worker! Please tell us what experience you have with this kind of labour. We do need some muscle!
We can accommodate 1 volunteers for between 4 days and a week. (approximately.)Languages spoken
