Description
My wife and I run two English elementary schools in Siem Reap Province. We would love English speakers to volunteer for 1 , 2 weeks or more weeks at the school. As a native speaker, you will be invaluable in helping our young students pronounce the worlds correctly.
We employ about 15 local teachers who provide education to over 300 students. The teachers do a wonderful job planning and implementing the lessons, but we need your help to pronounce the words properly. We have morning and afternoon sessions where you will help out the Khmer teachers by reading flashcards, and small paragraphs and help correct the students workbooks.Types of help and learning opportunities

Volunteer speaking English at our school.
Notice I said to speak and not teach English. Just Have fun. You are "The Icing on the Cake" The kids want to hear your pronunciation. They are amazing spellers with great vocabulary but have had little exposure to what the word actually sounds like. They would love to hear the word from you.
I am Paul and my wife's name is Sa it is our job to make you feel welcome. We live next door with our two boys .
There are 8 classrooms with whiteboards & large TVs that hook up to laptops. We also have an additional room where teachers laminate, print, and prepare lessons & outdoor activities.
We start our day with songs in the playground from 7.30 - 8.00am. Morning lessons are 8.00 - 9.00am followed by a 30 minute break. Then 9.30 - 10.30am.
The afternoon playground songs start at 1.30pm and lessons are 2-3pm and 3.30 - 4.30pm.
You'll follow a teacher into a primary classroom and share a little about yourself. Most of the 300 children are between the ages of 4 and 11 (older children attend an evening session).
Volunteers can choose a 2-4;30 session or attend the slightly older 5-6 pm session.
Our village school is 15kms from Siem Reap. Playground songs are from 7.45am and lessons start at 8.00am
Lunch is cooked at the school and served from 11:00-12:30, afternoon lessons start at 1.15-3.30pm
All help is greatly received. You will play a big part in our mission to provide English lessons to the local children.
We look forward to welcoming you at our humble school and homestay in Cambodia.
Best wishes,
PaulRegistered charity

Help
We want dedicated volunteers to work in the classrooms at our school. The children want to hear your pronunciation. They are amazing spellers with great vocabulary but have had little exposure to what the words actually sounds like. They would love to hear the words from you. My team of teachers does a great job of teaching. They execute planned lessons, guide children through worksheets and their books, and oversee fun art projects {coloring, cutting, pasting} and outdoor physical activities. They run the classroom and incorporate you into the lesson. We are not an orphanage.
We have 8 classrooms in the school that will benefit greatly from having native English speakers assist in the classroom.
We eat as a family at a small table at the school (my wife and I also live there with our family). We serve a simple breakfast of bananas, toast tea or coffee between 6:30 and 7:25 and an Asian lunch of rice or soup with protein (fish, chicken, or pork) is served between 11;30 and 12;30. I'm a vegetarian so you can eat alongside me and have the soups with seasonal vegetables.
On Saturday evenings we will prepare dinner for everyone so we can join together & share experiences.Languages

I would love the students to hear your voice. As a native English speaker hearing you say the words correctly will help the students speak better English.Accommodation

The teachers here suor, phyrun, sreynoch and yada are all amazing. They are so friendly and welcoming, they work so hard and care so much about the children. I worked in the classroom with sreynoch and yada and they really got me involved with the lessons.

Although the accommodations were simple, they met my needs, and the fans helped so much at night since I went during the one of the warmest months (April).
The meals provided were okay. I appreciated the market near by to get some extra snacks and… read more
