    Updated - 12/08/18

Hi there, my name is Malcolm, I'm and older guy(62 now) living(mostly alone) on my awn land beside a tall forest National Park and close to where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. Beside this land is a tall forest National Park with many biking and walking trails.., and 4km away is a beautiful long white sandy beach called Hamelin Bay. This area attracts very unique weather patterns. My land is blessed with a stream flowing through the middle ..., all the usual native animals are here..., Kangaroo, Emu, birdlife..., in fact the bird population here is very large and diverse.

I am slowly building my own home(I enjoy 'the doing process').., using local stone( granite) and some local and plantation timber. I have grid connected solar power plus a Solar hot water system..., 2 satellite dishes giving me internet and TV coverage. Most of the time I am alone here, so there are always a need for helping hands - large evolving organic vegetable garden and 35+ fruit/nut trees.

A future building project is to build a small cabin(40 - 50 sq/mtrs) using various local, natural, 'found' and re-cycled materials..., plus some hi-tech 'other' materials.
People with appropriate and special skills would be made most welcome !

    (1) It's much better if you have your own vehicle to visit here.
    (2) At the present moment I cannot provide 'all' of your food needs - you will need to provide 'most of' your own food, but, I can provide large ice box and new ice every day.
    (3) I ask for 2 hours per day or 10 hours work per week..., and it's easy work, in exchange for a nice place to make camp, with clean toilets and hot water showers..., there's plenty of places available to make a very nice camp plus I can help out with camping equipment - tables, chairs, ice and tarps etc. Do you have your own tent or camper van ?
    (4) You will need to speak and understand English well - we need to understand each other..., it's all about your safety while you stay and help here ;-)
    (5) If you are vegan or vegetarian..., good for you, but you'll have to prepare your own meals..., you will be able to help yourself to the produce from my garden.

The work I would like help with is..., weeding gardens and orchards, planting seedlings, mowing/raking grass, picking up sticks, raking leaves, making compost piles for soil building. People with building skills are especially welcomed and looked after ! Yogi's or people with meditations skills are likewise also especially welcome here. People with Camper Vans..., 'couples' or 'groups of friends' would be most suited because there are plenty of nice sheltered and private camp sites to park your van and make a camp. The weather is still nice and warm..., some nights there is a little rain but that simply keeps the bush smelling nice and the flowers alive.

Visitor/helpers wishing to visit should contact me directly on my Australian no. ..., zero four two nine, five eight five, five two two. If you do text, please identify who you are and a bit about yourself in the first text.

    Here are some of the projects visitors can helped me with ;
    - house maintenance, painting, moving furniture, house cleaning.
    - in the fruit and vegetable gardens - I could use some help with soil building, feeding, composting, weeding, watering, pruning fruit trees, harvesting, preserving/storing fruit and vegies..., etc etc
    - help with my yoga practice..., join in meditations.
    - working with metal and timber - creating stuff ?
    - help with my Apple laptop.
    - fuel reduction - raking firebreaks, collecting & storing fire wood for use inside in the wood stove, raking and piling excess leaves and sticks to burn later.
    - collecting seaweed from my local boat ramp.

Play Time..., It's not all work here.., time to relax and play is very important. Visitors and helpers are always welcome to join in if I go somewhere off the property. This can be any one of a number of things - 4WD trips for remote coastal areas nearby. Relax and play in, on, under or by the ocean - this can mean; surfing - I can teach you !), fishing/diving, beach walking, making sandcastles...., simply exploring the coastline and looking for inspiration and driftwood(in my spare time I like to make things using driftwood, metal and recycled aged timber).
I like to cook, share food and recipes - especially Asian food(yes, can be spicy). I would like to learn some 'raw' food or vegan methods..., can anyone help me with that ? I'm a bit of a learner in painting(oil).., and would like to learn more..., I like getting out in the bush - either walking or riding MTB in the forests(there's a lot of trails here)...., I enjoy practicing yoga. Last but not least, I really enjoy chill out time - reading(or snoozing) in a swaying hammock..., under the peppermint trees...., now that's what I cal a dynamic meditation ;-)
While I'm not actually 'religious'..., I think there is a spirit in all things on earth..., and I choose to take Buddhism as my guiding philosophy.
This year my mantra is - "you're never too old to play like a child" ..., make of that what you will.

I would like to hear from people interested in sustainable living systems, using organic gardening techniques and permaculture principals and systems. I welcome everyone here...., especially those with creative energy and genuine experience in building.
Also...,I can usually find 'paid work' for visitor/helpers in local vineyards or restaurants.

I have an exciting new 'project starting this Summer - I'm planning to build a small 'free form' cabin - about 60 sq/m.
I would be most grateful If there's people 'out there' who're interested in helping me.
I'd like to build with whatever local and salvaged materials I can find - 2nd hand doors & windows, timber, stone, mud, straw bale, coloured metal roofing. I have much of it stored and stacked here already. I'm dreaming it will be a solar powered, rain watered, wood heated cabin with a generous verandah. People with alternative building skills and/or experience, ideas, creative energies etc..., please make contact.
If you have any questions ?...., please send me a message.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I can share my experience and knowledge of permaculture, organic and sustainable gardening and food production. I also have knowledge of fishing, diving, surfing, working with timber and metal, sustainable construction, off road driving, survival and remote area camping...., and much more. I would be good if helpers visiting here bring their own set of skills and knowledge to share. I welcome people with open hearts, minds, humour and good energy....., people who value protecting and enhancing the land we live on..., and the animals we share the land with.

Mainly shaded camp sites around this property..., although there is also a self contained caravan(trailer home)...., both have good access to toilets and rain water showers.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

This farm is just 6 km from Hamelin Bay, 18 km north from Augusta, 30 km south from Margaret River and 14 km west of the Blackwood River. It has a stream flowing through the middle..., there are many private clearings where travellers can make a camp(I can provide some camping equipment). We are located right beside a tall forest National Park and from here it's possible to take a walk through the forest to some special white sand beaches. I've hosted helpers here for more than 15 years now via other sites and now Workaway.
