2024 update 18th of April 2024: the summer is looking full of nice workawayers already. So you guys need to look elsewhere for a place to stay, best wishes:)

Cosy small house/cottage in the countryside, by the sea, north of Norway, land of the midnight sun, 15 km from Bodø town center. Large lawn, nice terrace, garage - all in need of maintenance. Beautiful walks in the mountains just behind or along the seaside

I am the only one living here for the time being, with my dog. During busy working periods I would like help with basic housekeeping and maintenance mainly outside and maybe some dog walking. Medium sized dog, friendly but active.

The Waws will share kitchen and bathroom with me. There are two spare bedrooms. You are not expected to cook for me on a regular basis or work long hours on never-ending-projects, but to enjoy your self.

Most photos are from the mountain just behind my house, the winter photos a bit further away, all just to show you my kind of life. The pile of wood is in my garden.

I enjoy very much to learn about daily life and traditions in foreign countries. I also read a lot and like to discuss books, literature, science and politics so I hope you share some of these interests and like a chat around the dinner table.
I hope to inspire you to like nature, easy living, camping, hiking and not to care so much about the weather.

I just want friendly, tidy, easy going persons with some experience in housekeeping, dog walking, gardening and other basic maintenance jobs like painting, maybe also some wood chopping for the fireplace. There will be no fixed work schedule so you will be free to decide when to do the work. I hope you can climb a ladder without getting dizzy,

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I have two sleeping arrangements available for workaways.

The first bedroom on the first floor with one single bed and one small double bed. Suitable for a couple or good friends as the bedrom is rather small. Or of course for a single person.

Second: In addition there is a large sleeping area in the "library" on the first floor, with several beds. Suitable for friends. Not so much privacy in this sleeping area so I prefer guests only in the first bedroom.

I will provide bed linens and towels.

The stairs to the first floor are rather steep and narrow. Not easy for people with disabilities.

Large bathroom with tub and shower. Small kitchen with kitchen table just fine for three persons. You are free to cook your own meals. I will provide decent food, not only cheap pasta. I do not have a fixed shedule for meals. The Waws are not expected to cook meals for me but I hope we most days can share a meal and have interesting conversations.

Living room divided in two sections, two sofas and a dining area. There are a lot of wooden floors so you are expected to take your shoes off before entering (a Norwegian custom).

There is no TV in the house. There is WIFI available to a limited extent. Netflix movies might be difficult. My advice is to bring your own internet access.

    What else ...

The nearest ctiy, Bodø, is the gateway to the Lofoten islands. It is possible to combine a visit to my place with going to Lofoten. The public transport from town center to Lofoten during the summer months are fairly good.

There is a bus connection to Bodø from my house but the departures are not frequent and it is difficult to visit the city center in the evenings. In Bodø there are a cinema, concert hall, aviation museum, lots of shops, pubs and restaurants and a nice harbor.

The peninsula Kjerringøy is 15 minutes and a ferry away with the traditional handelssted to be visited, a popular tourist destination.

The famous stream, Saltstrømmen, is 45 minutes away. Here the fishing opportunites are great. Fishing is free in the sea.

You can take the track just behind the house to go up the mountain or stroll along the seaside. There are several hiking routes to mountain tops, easily reached in 2 hours walking and with spectacular view of the coastline, mountains and even the Lofoten islands

There are a lot of hidden small beaches with white sand all around where you can camp. The most well known, Mjelle, beach is 10 minutes away by car.

You may use my bikes to get around to Kjerringøy, Mjelle or other destinations.

I like my days to be peaceful and to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I do a lot of walks in the mountains with my dogs. I pick some berries in the autumn and also some mushrooms. I like to keep the garden and the outdoor surroundings tidy.

In my house all though there are evidence of the presence of dogs everywhere (fur and hair) .

During the summer I like to invite friends for a barbecue or just some snack in the garden.

Please be aware of the fact that summer season in Norway ends approximatley 10/15th of August and afterwards public transport and opening hours at tourist attractions might be even more limited and the temperature drops.

No smokers. I do not drink coffee and will only provide instant coffee.

Do not bring cash as exchange to Norwegian currency is difficult.
