The Museum is located in Húsavík, on the north coast of Iceland and is dedicated to the history of human exploration. Our current exhibition focuses on five topics, including our classics (Vikings, Polar Explorers and Astronauts) and more recent ones (Volcanoes and Caves). In fact, Húsavík was the first Viking settlement in Iceland, it is located just few kilometres away from the Arctic Circle and it is the closest town to the highlands area where Apollo astronauts trained twice in the '60s before flying to the Moon. Moreover, a distinctive feature of Iceland is its volcanic activity which also results in the underground world of lava tubes. We dream now of further expanding our exhibition.

The Museum of Húsavík is looking for enthusiastic, responsible, proactive and versatile voluteer/s that can help the museum staff and bring fresh idea in order to further expand our exhibition. The new field we want to cover is the Underwater World.
The main requirement is fluency in English and fluency in a second language is a plus. Knowledge of the new topic of our exhibition is also a plus, but the main characteristics we are looking for in our volunteer/s are creativity and team working.
We will give priority to applicant/s who are available to come soon to Husavik and stay for the longest time as possible. Couple of partners or friends are most welcome.
The tasks will be various, but the main ones all involve helping our staff setting the new exhibition up (it will be a very creative work), but also receiving possible guests during the opening hours of the museum.
The Museum will provide accommodation at the Hostel for the whole period of the volunteering in a private room. A fully equipped kitchen is available for the volunteers to use.
A maximum of two volunteers will be accepted for the period that stretches from February to end of March. It will be impossible for us to accept volunteers staying longer due to unavailable accommodation.
For the whole duration of the stay, free tickets for whale watching and free entrance to the other museums in town will be provided.
