The Museum is located in Húsavík, on the north coast of Iceland and is dedicated to the history of human exploration. Our current exhibition focuses on three topics: Vikings, Polar Explorers and Astronauts. In fact, Húsavík was the first Viking settlement in Iceland, it is located just few kilometres away from the Arctic Circle and it is the closest town to the highlands area where Apollo astronauts trained twice in the '60s before flying to the Moon.
The Museum hosts the Festival every year in Húsavík in late September. The Festival consists of talks by special guests, art/photo exhibitions related to the topic of exploration, concerts, film screenings, workshops and outdoor activities.

The Museum of Húsavík is looking for enthusiastic, responsible, proactive and versatile voluteers that can help the museum staff during the next Festival, that will be held in Húsavík, a cozy little town in Northern Iceland, next autumn (September 21 to 24, 2017).
The main requirement is fluency in English and fluency in a second language is a plus. We will give priority to applicants with good skills in social media management.
The tasks will be various, but the main ones involve helping our staff setting exhibitions up, managing social media, receiving the guests and preparing the venues for the events.
The Museum will provide accommodation at the Hostel for the whole period of the volunteering, and food for the duration of the Festival. The volunteers will share a room with shared facilities and fully equipped kitchen available.
The volunteers are supposed to arrive in Húsavík on September 15, or anyway no later than September 17, and to stay with us until the end of the Festival. Applicants can, if they want, ask to extend their stay in town after the end of the festival, helping the staff with the regular activity of the museum.
For the week of the festival, the volunteers are expected to help the staff every day. For a possible extended stay, the schedule would be totally flexible. Furthermore, free tickets for whale watching and free entrance to the other museums in town will be provided.
