    Description

We love having help on our small scale farm! We grow a variety of vegetables and berries, have chickens for eggs and there are pigs too! We are not a commercial farm, but a self sufficient operation. All production is for ourselves and our neighbours. We live in a very supportive community in a beautiful rural part of Nova Scotia, close to the town of Wolfville, which is home to the Wolfville Farmers’ Market and Acadia University. Our region of Nova Scotia is known as the Annapolis Valley and has a thriving small scale agricultural heritage.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Nova Scotia is a wonderful place, renowned for the friendliness of the people and the beauty of the landscape. There are a number of different cultures represented here including French Acadian and Mi'kmaq First Nations. We are very fortunate to have an amazing variety of live theatre and music venues close by. Every September we are volunteers at the Deep Roots Music Festival in nearby Wolfville. We live on a 200 acre piece of land that boasts many trails for hiking, walking, mountain biking and, in the winter, skiing and snow shoeing!

  • Help

    Help

The type of help we need will depend of what time of year you come! In the Spring we will be getting the garden beds ready by cultivating, working with transplants, getting the greenhouse ready, repairing fences and animal shelters. In the summer it will be planting, weeding, harvesting and looking after the animals. We do lots of harvesting and preserving in the fall, as well as pressing fresh apple cider!

We are not a commercial farm, but a self sufficient operation.

    Accommodation

We offer a room in our house with a private bathroom and shower. There is the possibility for a couple in a room with a queen size bed, or two Workawayers in separate rooms sharing the bathroom and shower. All meals will be shared with us, and if you like to cook we would welcome your help! We are not vegetarians but can easily accommodate a vegetarian diet. It would be more challenging for vegans, but not impossible.

    What else ...

We live in an intentional community, a group of like minded neighbours. We share 200 acres of land. There is lots to see and do in our area of Nova Scotia, and the capital city Halifax is only 1 hour away. We have no public transit where we live in the country, but would be glad to drive you to Wolfville to catch a bus. There are local buses that travel up and down the Annapolis Valley as well as daily buses into Halifax and other parts of the province. Canada is really lacking in train transport, but there is a train from Halifax to other parts of Canada. Check Viarail for schedules. The Halifax Stanfield Airport is a 1 1/2 hour drive from our house, but there is bus service to Wolfville where we would gladly pick you up. Days off could be spent exploring our over 8 kms of trails, or we could take you on a tour of our area to see all the beautiful sights!
