Hola! I'm Zoe :)
I love travelling, meeting new people, and experiencing new places and cultures, (and patting all the sweet dogs I meet along the way!) and have found that volunteering while I travel is the best way to get the most out of the experience because you really can get to know a place and the community, rather than just pass through.
I can bring a good attitude and work ethic to your Workaway project, as well as a willingness to learn any new skills!
Coming from New Zealand I'm happiest outdoors, in the forest or near a beach but am equally comfortable in cities and smaller rural towns, as long as there's somewhere in nature to enjoy nearby.
In 2023-2024 I volunteered for 18 months as the Head Volunteer at an animal sanctuary, primarily working with dogs and cats, and managing the volunteer team. I looked after all of the animals every day, from feeding and walking, cleaning corrals, to administering medications and basic veterinary care. I managed the social media channels and worked closely on the adoptions and travel arrangements for animals flying to their new lives. I personally flew with 7 dogs to Canada and drove 5 of them across Canada to their new homes.
In 2022 I spent five months volunteering at an ecotourism park, working with guests and clients, helping with the farm and animals, building bits and pieces, helping with admin and marketing, painting and so much more. I also spent more than four months working with various different dog rescue organisations, in both a fundraising and communications capacity, and in a hands-on animal care capacity. I even rescued and fostered my own Mexican street pup for five months before flying him north to a new life in the United States.
It is safe to say I love animals and am always interested in opportunities to work with animals.
I have also volunteered in various hostels around Mexico and have experience working on reception, guest activities and events, as well as general cleaning and maintenance.
When I'm at home, I usually keep a vegetable garden and a lot of house plants so am also drawn to any gardening/horticulture/farm work.
I'm into fitness and try to stay active during my travels. I run most days and like to go to the gym or join local fitness classes. I also have a 200hr yoga instructor certification.
I’m a native English speaker and am always happy to help others learn or improve their English. My father is from Argentina, so I learned some Spanish at home growing up, although I'm not fluent so would love to improve my Spanish speaking also!
I’ve built my professional career working with non-profits in Fundraising, Communications & Event Management and would love the opportunity to use any of these existing skills on a Workaway.
I hope to meet you soon!Interests
