Hi all!

My name is Thijs, I'm 26 years old and I am Dutch. I currently live in the Netherlands but have also lived in Belgium and Germany over the past years, which was a great experience. I think that by moving and traveling a lot during my youth, I quickly grew a very strong interest to meeting new people, getting to know different cultures and learning languages.

Besides this, there are many other things that I enjoy in life. My biggest passion is surfing and this brought me to the most beautiful places (and people) across Europe, Africa and Central America. I enjoy mingling in the local communities, trying typical foreign dishes and improving my French and Spanish, which I am currently learning. I also love to cook myself and like to 'trial and error' myself towards new recipes. Above all, I like to help people and give something back, as I feel very blessed with what I've already received in this life. I try to do this in various ways, by volunteering on events in my home country to giving back to the communities that I visit abroad.

As I have some free time in between completing my studies and starting my first job, I would like to join a volunteering project abroad where I can use my enthusiasm and experience to help out where help is really welcome. I am fluent in English so I would be more than happy to teach this language. I also have a bachelor and master in aerospace engineering, so I could teach science-related courses (Maths,Physics,Chemistry) as well, may this be of interest. I've also created websites and social media content for people and organizations in the past and really enjoy using my creativity to make illustrations and graphic designs.

Besides these "technical skills", I am a sociable guy who is just as happy being a listening ear to people, taking care of those who need it and just being there for people. Whether this is by having a good conversation, playing football, providing some distraction or spending a day in the kitchen.

Given my wide interests, I am open to a very large range of volunteering responsibilities. I would personally really value it if I could also combine the volunteering experience with improving my Spanish and learning about a new culture. Colombia has been high on my list for a long time and I would therefore love to explore possibilities in this country. Most importantly, I am looking for a project that helps the people that most need it at this moment and where the volunteering tasks have a direct social impact.

I would say I'm a sociable and enthusiastic guy who really enjoys helping others and being useful where it is needed.

My main skills are:

- Teaching English
- Teaching Maths, Physics and Chemistry (I have a bachelor and master in aerospace engineering)

I am also very handy with trial and error and quickly learn new things. Because I have lived in different countries (Netherlands, Belgium, Germany) and traveled a lot while surfing, I am comfortable adapting to new cultures and environments.

Above all, I like to give something back and use my energy and skills to support projects and communities that can really use some help. I am open to many different tasks and always happy to learn and contribute in any way that is useful!

What else ...

What I forgot to mention in my general description is that I am a huge sport fan. Whether it is football, basketball, volleyball.,, I love to play team sports and I can be quite competitive. I wouldn't say I am very good at a specific sport, but I am 'okay' in a quite a few. I also love to watch sport events with friends or people I meet abroad.
