Description
Hi! My name is Stephanie and I am coming from the United States to travel for a while after graduating with my master's in anthropology. I enjoy most understanding the human experience, feeling more connected through differences in how we live, and building curiosity about others. I am driven by a love for experiential and hands-on learning and am adventurous in the sense that I like to try things, foods and physical activities and languages, and am particularly open to looking ridiculous in the process. School had me feeling a bit siphoned creatively and so I would love to use these trips as a way to re-explore some creative ventures, down to the simple act of conversing with others. I am also looking forward to making my travels less about me and more about being useful to others, as I do get much fulfillment out of wanting to make a difference in someone’s life, even incremental.
In terms of hobbies, I can be a bit noncommital in that I like to dip my toe in everything. I overwhelmingly love being outdoors, particularly near the ocean where I can swim, and being active, particularly hiking. However, one hobby that is a constant for me is social dancing, particularly salsa, bachata, and Brazilian zouk. I would to structure some of my travels around visiting different cities to take classes and participate in socials. Lastly, I am a huge family-centered person and nothing brings me more happiness than being the middle child in my chaotic, loving household. My hope is I can bring stories back so that should the day come, I can do these trips with my parents and siblings. -

More details about your skills
My graduate degree in anthropology trained me to have strong reading and journalistic writing skills as well made me proficient in grant writing, interviewing, and teaching. As part of my research, I spent four months in the urban Amazon in Brazil which helped me become comfortable and flexible in adapting to new environments. I also became proficient in Brazilian portuguese while I was there, on top of some spanish I have left over from a 9 month study abroad program in Sevilla, Spain when I was an undergraduate. I am comfortable teaching english to others, and did so in Spain both to children and other students.
I am comfortable around kids, having done much babysitting as well as doing some work in my hometown at a children's museum where I introduced STEM topics to high school students to help with career exploration. Also growing up, I helped caretake for my eldery grandmother with Alzheimer's who lived with me, and am good at caring for others with a lot of patience and empathy. This is in addition to a household filled with animals, including cats, dogs, birds, and lizards and so I feel at home amongst a lot animals, even the high energy ones.
For work throughout college, I did landscaping design and labor, taking care of commercial landscapes and personal gardens. I like to think of myself as strong, and maintain a high level of physical activity, including yoga and strength training. I have been serving at a fast paced fine-dining restaurant the past six months, where I get to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds and appreciate the cooperation and rapport I get amongst coworkers to keep operations running smoothly. -

What else ...
Have been practicing yoga for years and years and it has helped be an outlet for me as an ex-dancer. I enjoy rock climbing, although I have never done so outdoors but this is a goal. I am also interested in learning how to surf, just as a means of getting in the ocean more truthfully.
