Description

As a native New Yorker, I've always had an appreciation for the outdoors - especially growing up somewhere where nature can be hard to come by. My love of the outdoors has led me to pursue some awesome backpacking trips these last few years, including in Japan and Chile, in addition to doing some more local hikes. I also love traveling, and as much as I enjoy meeting new people and learning more about other cultures, I also think travel can be a great way to get more in touch with yourself. I feel very fortunate to have visited some special places around the world.

I'm currently in the process of becoming a social worker/therapist, and have also been studing Spanish fairly intesively for the past 2-3 years now. At some point in the near future, after I finish my degree, I'm hoping to move somewhere in Latin America where I can practice therapy and contribute to the local culture and institutions around mental health. I consider myself a kind and compassionate person at heart, which is why I care so much about building communities in which we work together to improve our collective well-being.

My other hobbies include reading, writing, and playing sports, especially basketball and football (soccer).

I have lots of experience working with people, as a researcher, tutor, service worker, and therapist-in-training. These experiences have given me a lot of patience as a listener, and when needed I am also good at giving careful instructions. As a tutor, I've taught Math, Science, English, and ESL, in addition to helping students prepare for standardized tests.

I also have outdoor experience and am good with my hands. I can generally use tools, and have basic knowledge of woodworking. More importantly, I'm a good listener and can get jobs done without complaining.

I live with two roommates, which has helped me learn to cohabitate effectively and navigate conflict. I also have a cat named Nuri - she's the center of my world :)

As far as games, I love playing cards and also dabble in Chess, Scrabble, Catan... I'll pretty much play whatever game, as long as there's some strategy involved!

I also love books and reading - that's probably my biggest hobby outside of sports. I love a classic every now and then, but I'm especially interested in international literature, especially surrealism, modernism and postmodernism. Some of my favorite authors include Kafka, Borges, Baldwin, Min Jin Lee, and Elena Ferrante. Movies are cool too!
