  • Description

    Hello hello:)

It's tricky writing this section. . . anyway, here's a bit about me:

I'm Ruby, a young human being currently studying environmental humanities in Berlin. My interests in permaculture, design thinking, urbanism and ecology lead me to Workaway, and I'm currently looking for a project in December-January where I can delve into hands-on work and at the same time contribute in concrete ways to the community in which I live. I find myself dissatisfied with the disconnect that exists in many places-of-learning between thinking and doing, and I think that the hands-on teaching possible through Workaway is so so important to change in our societies! Though I don't (yet) have extensive knowledge of carpentry, agriculture, or the like I am quite a fast learner and easy to work with. I have familiarity with the principles of permaculture and have grown up gardening, spending time in the forest, and helping a family of general constructors with this and that. I can write (by this I mean I can help with emails, websites, grant proposals, etc. as its hopefully already apparent that I'm literate), and would be honored to help with anything to do with botany, sustainable farming, and all things arts and ecology. I get along handily with lots of kinds of folks, but openminded, outdoorsy, creative and curious ones are my most beloved company. I enjoy mountain biking, backpacking, writing, crafting and learning about this and that and everything. My most recent obsession is sonic bioart.

There's a bit of info about me:) if you have any questions, just ask!

    Animal Care

  • More details about your skills

Formal work experience in housecleaning and dishwashing
Informal work removing invasive plants, organic gardening, cooking (I make great salads), helping paint/clean/repair old houses, canning/drying fruits

Most importantly, I want to learn - that's why I'm doing this - and I am not one to complain or be finnicky with using my hands.

Also I recently assisted in slaughtering a pig, and though I wouldn't want to be responsible for killing an animal, I feel comfortable with preparing meat and cleaning up if it comes down to it. I also feel quite comfortable with animals while they are alive; much more so, actually, than when not.
