Description
Hello!
I am a recent environmental science graduate looking to go back to school in the EU and am hoping to use Workaway as an opportunity to explore the continent and narrow down my search. I am currently finishing a position with an environmental land trust in Asheville, NC where I was involved in wildland protection. Right now I am hoping to take a step back and connect with my favorite hobby, skiing and snowboarding while getting a better understanding of what life and work is like in Europe.
I have a strong background in hospitality and food service, see my skills section. I am easygoing, tidy, hardworking and don't mind living in small or unorthodox spaces. My last Workaway stay was a very positive experience for my host, myself, and my fellow volunteers. I love skiing, rock climbing, and live music. I hope to find balance between community and independent time for exploration and reflection in my space. I enjoy hanging out with others to share good company, stories, food and drink (especially over some cards or board games) but can also be quite introspective and don't mind spending long periods of time on my own. -

I've lived in North Carolina in the United States for most of my life. My mother is a French national with Spanish parents. I grew up in a Spanish and French speaking house but have lost touch during my time in school. I would love to keep the spirit of language alive anywhere I go and continue to learn and refresh. -

More details about your skills
Restaurant and hospitality experience - I have worked in multiple restaurants for a combined 5 years of experience. Kitchen manager, line cook, cashier, hosting, and serving. My most recent experience is as a cook at a golf course in Seattle, WA and a vegan Bed and Breakfast in the Berkshire mountains. There I also received guests, prepared rooms for stay, and cleaned rooms upon departure.
General work experience: While likely not helpful to workaway, my career is in environmental land management. I have a passion for sustainable development and agriculture and I have worked many seasonal positions relating to wildlife conservation, land mapping, and conservation easement enforcement. I'm a certified wilderness firefighter with wilderness first aid training and I also have farmhand experience from a previous Workaway position. -

What else ...
I would appreciate being somewhere close to some sort of town but it's not my biggest priority. I love live music and interesting architecture. A town large enough to have a gym and public library is ideal.
