Description
I reside in the gentle Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. I was born and raised in Texas and made my way to the southeastern United States in my early 20s, and have called it home since. I have spent my adult life doing a variety of things for work: I served as an outdoor instructor leading a variety of multi-day backcountry trips with youth and adults in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and North Carolina, worked on a trail-maintanence crew doing a variety of hard labor, served as the manager within a nonprofit dedicated to food sovereignty and free food distribution, worked as an intern in a community garden, worked at a local mom-and-pop running speciality shoe store (I'm a big ultra-runner!), and have worked the grill of a dear friend's food truck/catering business the last several summers. I got my undergraduate degree in photography and usually have a handful of paid photography gigs each year. Most recently, I finished a graduate degree in social work in May of 2024 and will begin working as a middle and high school therapist in the fall.
I am motivated by the power of community and the collective pursuit of equality and justice. I am inspired by people who live at the heart of their passion and who live their internal values externally. I am an eager conversationalist and enjoy getting to know others through sharing experiences together. I am a kind and empathetic person, and love meeting new people and experiencing new things. I am an excellent communicator and can communicate my needs efficiently, respectfully, and clearly. I am self-motivated, respectful, and low maintenance.
I am new to workaway myself, but have many dear friends who have used it and loved it in my communities! I have had shorter travel stints abroad in Australia and Costa Rica, and I lived in Dunedin, New Zealand for five months in 2017.Interests

More details about your skills
I have experience in: gardening, lifting heavy things, painting, cooking for families and for large amounts of people, planting, weeding, cleaning, child care, some bike maintenance, photography, backcountry/outdoor living, trail work, nonviolent communication, and group facilitation.
I am a quick learner and down to do just about anything! I know myself well enough to know if a task is outside of my capacity (and will communicate that if so). I am physically and emotionally fit (I run about 40-50miles / 65-80k weekly), and strive to live a life that takes good care of my mind and body.Age

What else ...
I love a good board game! I enjoy sharing food and recipes with others. I also love to run and would gladly share a run or hike :) I enjoy reading and writing poetry, and usually start my mornings with a quiet hour of tea/coffee and my journal or a book. I enjoy meditating and try to do it regularly. I am an avid lover of animals, and though I do not yet have a dog of my own, I love loving on others' furry friends! I am extremely comfortable with outdoor adventure / outdoor living, and have spent many nights under the stars by bike or foot.

I can't say enough positive things about my time on Inishbofin living with this sweet family and their two pups. This was my first workaway and I stayed for three weeks. I would have tripled the length of my stay if I could have! Austin and Kartika welcomed me into their home and life immediately. I loved… read more
