  • Description

    Hi!

I'm Poppy, a British girl with a passion for travel and exploring new cultures.

I am currently a student in modern languages at university, and I am looking to spend some time in Europe. I love meeting new people and I am an experienced solo traveller. I have not long returned from a 12-month volunteering placement in Senegal where I taught English to both children and adults. I also love to cook - I think one of the best ways to get to know a country is through food! I am very adventurous and I love a challenge. I would say I am happiest when I am in nature or surrounded by the people I love.

More details about my language interests
I am a language fanatic!!!! At university I am currently studying both French and Italian, and my goal is to reach fluency in both as soon as I can. I regularly attend language exchanges at my university to meet natives and develop my skills. I have experience teaching both English and French during my volunteering placement in Senegal, in which I was also able to learn some basic Wolof, the local language where I was staying. I think languages are so important, and I will always advocate for language learning. Over the next couple of years I am also planning to take up Portuguese and Arabic classes at my university.

  • More details about your skills

    Some of my skills include:

    - I have experience working with children: I come from a big family with lots of cousins which I often babysit, as well as my 12-month teaching placement in Senegal last year. I think kids are amazing and always so much fun!

    - I am tidy and organised: I have stayed with several host families in the past, and I always try my best to be polite and respectful in their space. I am also happy to complete chores - it might seem strange but I actually find washing-up quite relaxing!

    - I am confident and a good communicator: I speak English, French and intermediate Italian and I am always open to learning more, or finding alternative ways to connect with people. Meeting new people is my favourite thing in the world and I love making new friends wherever I go.

    - I love animals and have experience pet-sitting: Although I like all animals, dogs are definitely my favourite! At home, I have a dog of my own which I of course look after, however I have also worked as a dog walker in my neighbourhood for many years.

    - I have worked several customer service jobs: I have been working in cafés, supermarkets and shops since I was 13! It has really helped me develop strong people skills, as well as simple skills like cooking and cleaning.

    - I am not afraid of a challenge: I am currently studying at the University of Cambridge and I pride myself on being a hard-worker.

  • What else ...

Some of my other hobbies include:

    - Yoga: I have been practicing yoga for several years and I love it so much. I attend weekly classes as well as doing short sessions every night and it is always my favourite time of day.

    - Tennis: I have played tennis for many years recreationally and it is such a fun, social weekend activity. Like yoga, I find this incredibly relaxing and therapeutic.

    - Singing and theatre: Although I am in no way a professional, I love singing and have been a part of several choirs over the years. I think music is just so magical, it makes me so happy!
