Description
About Me
Hello! I’m originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, and after 26 years there, I moved to Perth, Western Australia. I’ve also been fortunate to live in Canada, Norway, England, New Zealand, and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Living in so many different places has given me a real appreciation for new cultures, landscapes, and ways of life.
I love travelling, meeting people, and learning practical skills wherever I go. I’m easy-going, dependable, and enjoy being part of a community.
Skills and Experience
I’m comfortable with physical work and enjoy hands-on projects. My experience includes general handyman work, basic carpentry, gardening and nursery work, and community projects.
I’m also an active volunteer with Men of the Trees — an organisation that grows local native plants from seed and cuttings and restores them to community sites. Working outdoors and helping things grow is something I find deeply rewarding.
By profession, I’m a primary school teacher with over 20 years of experience, so teaching, learning, and sharing knowledge come naturally to me. I’m patient, adaptable, and enjoy contributing wherever I can — whether that’s helping with daily tasks, projects, or mentoring children. I also volunteer tutor a student in need.
Why I've Joined Workaway
I’ve reached a point in life where I’d like to combine travel with meaningful contribution — helping others while discovering new places and people. I’m spending a year exploring Workaway on my own to learn what it’s all about, and I hope to later share the experience with my wife when she’s ready to join me.
In short: I’m positive, practical, and curious, and I really value good company, shared meals, and purposeful work.

What else ...
I enjoy a variety of creative and outdoor activities. I play the violin at an intermediate level and the guitar at a basic level, and I love sharing music with others in a relaxed, fun way. I’m also passionate about the visual arts, including drawing, painting, mixed-media projects, and handmade pottery, and I enjoy teaching or collaborating on creative projects whenever I can. Outdoors, I love surfing, hiking, camping, and bushcraft, and I especially enjoy activities that combine being in nature with community involvement, such as group plantings, outdoor workshops, or shared projects with others. For me, hobbies are about connection, learning, and contributing, whether through music, art, or simply being part of a community in the natural world.
