    Description

Hi, I’m Mikkel, 27, from Denmark. I’m a grounded, curious and dependable person who enjoys meeting new people and becoming part of an international community. I enjoy social environments, but I don’t need to be the loudest person in the room. I’m often the person who notices what needs doing and gets on with it.

I recently spent three months volunteering at an English academy in Florencia, Colombia, where I taught English to children and teenagers. I prepared and adapted activities for different ages and confidence levels, and the experience taught me patience, flexibility and how to make people feel comfortable participating.

Since returning to Denmark, I have started working in a café/restaurant/bar, where I’m developing practical experience with hospitality, guest service and teamwork. I have also worked outdoors as a gardener during the summer, so I’m comfortable with physically demanding work, changing weather and getting my hands dirty.

Music is another important part of my life. I have DJed at hostels, bars, weddings and corporate events. These experiences taught me how to read a room, adapt to different groups and help create memorable experiences for other people.

I speak Danish and English fluently, and my Spanish is intermediate, around B1–B2.
Living in Colombia made me much more comfortable using Spanish in everyday life, and I’m continuing to improve actively talking to Spanish and Latin American expats in Denmark any chance i get:)

For me, Workaway is an opportunity to experience the everyday life of a place rather than simply pass through as a tourist. I’m looking for an honest exchange where I can contribute reliably, learn from the people around me and become part of a team for a while.

Curiosity and presence are the two qualities I most want to cultivate in myself. Yoga and meditation help me practise this, while surfing, exercise and time outdoors help me feel grounded and connected to my surroundings.

My next trip begins in Mexico in late September 2026, and I will be available for a longer commitment from the beginning of October.

More details about my language interests
I speak Danish and English fluently. My Spanish is intermediate, around B1–B2, and I used it daily while living and volunteering in Colombia. I still make mistakes, but I can manage everyday conversations and continue communicating when I do not know the perfect word. I also speak intermediate Swedish and beginner German. I have practical experience helping children and teenagers learn English. I’m happy to help others practise English or Danish through relaxed conversation, games or everyday activities. I try to create an encouraging environment where people feel comfortable speaking and making mistakes.

My strongest experience is working with people. During my three-month placement at an English academy in Colombia, I taught children and teenagers and learned to explain ideas in different ways, adapt activities to the group and remain patient when somebody needed additional support.

I now work in a café/restaurant/bar in Denmark, where I’m developing hands-on experience with hospitality, guest service and teamwork. I enjoy welcoming people and contributing to an atmosphere where they quickly feel comfortable.

I have worked as a gardener during the summer and am comfortable with outdoor and physically demanding tasks. I can help with gardening, cleaning, carrying, organising and general maintenance support. I don’t mind repetitive work or getting dirty when a job needs to be completed properly.

I also have experience DJing at hostels, bars, weddings and corporate events. This has taught me preparation, adaptability and how to understand the atmosphere of a group. In a hostel, I could contribute music sessions, social evenings or events while making sure the experience remains welcoming and inclusive.

I’m reliable, organised and comfortable taking responsibility. I work well independently, but I also value clear communication, constructive feedback and supporting the wider team.

I would be happy to help with guest interaction, reception, language exchanges, social activities, gardening, cleaning and organising shared spaces, kitchen preparation and general daily tasks.
I’m interested in becoming a better cook and would enjoy learning from people who like sharing recipes and food traditions.

  • What else ...

Outside work, I enjoy going to the gym, playing basketball, practising yoga and meditation, surfing whenever I have the opportunity and spending time outdoors.

Music and movement are important to me. Alongside DJing, I love dancing and the way it allows people to connect, have fun and become completely present, even when they do not share the same language.

I love conversations about philosophy, psychology and the human experience, why people live as they do, what gives life meaning and how our experiences shape us. Some of my favourite moments while travelling have come from spontaneous conversations with people whose lives are very different from mine.

I also enjoy board and card games, especially activities that naturally bring a group together. I’m interested in learning how to cook and would love to exchange simple recipes, help prepare shared meals and gradually become more confident in the kitchen.

I enjoy lively social evenings as well as cooking together, having deeper conversations or relaxing after a busy day. I’m considerate in shared living environments and try to communicate clearly about cleanliness, noise and responsibilities.

I bring a relaxed attitude, but I take commitments seriously. Wherever I stay, I try to be curious, present and genuinely useful.
