Hi!

Welcome to my page! ☀️

I'm Josh. And that is General, the handsomest boy 🫡 By day, I'm usually exploring ways in which technology can ease our (and into our) lives. I'm currently pursuing my Masters in Computer Science in Singapore, specializing in AI. As fun as that is, it often has me in front of my screen(s!) most times, and I always like taking the pockets of time in between to reconnect with the real world that we are so fortunate to live in.

I've found that one of the best ways that has worked for me is by volunteering. I started locally in 2018 with animal shelters at home, but in recent few years I've been centering my travels around it, and its now how I prefer to see and experience the world.

I may be new to Workaway, but am no stranger to volunteering, spanning across home, Thailand, Vietnam and China. And in 2026, I hope to expand my horizons even further, no limits on the destination, I'm an explorer at heart, and always searching for something to enrich my life's experiences.

My past hosts have found me to be very responsible, quick to learn, and adaptable. I take pride in my work, and I believe that learning and exchange only happens if its a two way street, so you can be assured that I'll give my best at any task that comes my way! I'm resourceful too, so usually I'm able to figure things out. Testimonies are in my photos :)

In addition, I'm looking to deepen my skills in DIY 🛠️ ,cooking 🍳 , and gardening 🌱 - so any opportunities to pick and up and practice these will be very treasured by me!

What else ...

I'm a massive fan of board games! From casual favorites like UNO to classic card games like bridge, or even more niche titles like Modern Art (a fantastic little art-auction game). I can't promise I'm a grandmaster strategist, but I can absolutely guarantee a good dose of fun and laughter when we play!

I love trying new things and discovering unexpected sides of myself along the way. For instance, I recently discovered a secret talent for making homemade limoncello - who knew!

My hobbies evolve with my journey in life, and my latest passion has been cheerleading! I've been doing that for 6 months - a year now, and its been an incredible way to challenge myself and learn a thing or two about teamwork

Oh, where do I start? I was here for a month in July/Aug to beat my past record of taking care of 300 animals, and boy I got way more than I bargained for. There's quite possibly 800 animals, mostly poultry, in Jackie's farm, and I've gotten to know them (and their eggs) fairly well.

This, I would say, isn't the typical work exchange where you … read more work 5 hours 5 days a week for food and accommodation. The animals and garden have to be taken care of twice daily, but beyond that, anything can happen.

I think what has really happened here is that you get taken in as part of the family. When there's work to be done, everyone pitches in, and when there's fun to be had, you're never left out. It’s a full on experience at this house.

Everything that has been written in Jackie's profile and the past feedback of 100+ volunteers has been accurate (I re-read them after coming here!). But what felt really special to me was how Jackie takes the effort to get to know you, your quirks, finds out what you want from this experience and tries her best to make it happen for you (despite the gazillion other things she has on her mind).

When I was here, Jackie wasn't a one (wo)man show. We were joined by a cast of really warm hearted and fun family members and relatives whom I absolutely loved spending time with, especially John, Uncle David, Kate and Archie. They made every experience even more unforgettable.

I had the opportunity to experience so much. I’ll never forget the time Jackie decided to get me on a horse ten minutes before a huge storm, peer pressuring me into buying a $40 t-shirt (which turned out to be the best souvenir ever), Uncle David teaching me stand up paddling, finding bears for Archie (and finally seeing one!!), sheep wrestling, canoeing, bingo, rodeo, bird show, ATV, campfire smokies, really delicious suppers and so much more. I could literally go on forever, because that’s how much Jackie wanted me to experience her part of the world.

My month here was also made perfect by the 2 other workawayers I was lucky enough to team up with, Laura and Pauline. They were really fun to be around, and brought really good energy to the team. I know I already said too much but I also have to mention the 5 indoor cats and 2 outside dogs. They are incredibly affectionate (unlike any other pets I’ve seen) and there’s always time to enjoy a cuddle (or many) with them. I already miss them loads.

I think if you come here with an open mind, unafraid to roll up your sleeves (or in my case put on your gloves), and be a part of this (slightly crazy, but always lively) family, you'll probably have the time of your life and leave with nothing but good memories. Thank you for everything Jackie!
