I'm interested in being away for the November/December/January holidays this year 2026. Sun and warmth would be welcome, although I'd consider other climates.

Description

Now that I am retired from the formal workforce I am intent on volunteering my time and energy around the planet. I am interested in being in places new to me, and I am drawn to being of service.

I am as plain as water, but I do have experience with raising chickens and goats, a small bit of horse care, and I’ve had several house dogs. I’ve gardened, shoveled snow and manure, raised a daughter, learned to knit, published poetry, opened a doughnut shop, and so forth. I've been a caretaker for elderlies with and w/o dementia. I overcame fear of water when I was 30 and have loved swimming ever since.

Born in Chicago , I earned a liberal arts degree at the University of Illinois and worked for Encyclopaedia Britannica for a few years before becoming a freelancer in editorial services.

My experience with a cultural exchange situation in French-speaking Switzerland while in college was super transformative for me. In my late 20s I went on a blind date to Cortona, Italy, and stayed for several months, helping around the house and taking language lessons in Perugia. In March 2026 I helped a friend rescue her injured brother from Bangkok, an experience that reminded me how satisfying it is to be of service.

I now live in Belfast, Maine, on beautiful Penobscot Bay, where I freelanced until recently retiring. In the early 2000s I was involved in building a house and creating gardens and lived quite simply for several years— off grid, carry water, natural childbirth.

I have a Roman Catholic background but have been a committed Buddhist for many years with a daily meditation practice. I'm generally a vegetarian but am flex, as in most respects.
