I'm Jacob

I'm a 24 year old from Brighton, England. I completed a degree in psychology in 2024, leaving with more questions than job prospects. I worked in a pub for a year saving some money and volunteered at Emmaus for a couple of hours a week in the cafe.

I have lived in a city my whole life where I have been coddled by convenience. I am really interested and keen to learn more about living off the land, different kinds of plants and their medicinal uses, open space for my mind to rest and be inspired by, away from the constant stimulation that permeates city life. I may not posses many practical skills yet but I have an open mind, a strong body and a willingness to learn.

I am able to communicate and get along with many different types of people. I believe that there is more that unites us as humans than divides us on the basis of nationality, religion, social class, or any other man-made structure you care to mention.

I work in a pub and I volunteer at a local charity for the homeless. I know in my heart that there are other ways of life than those presented to me by my society and I am excited to explore and be inspired by the paths others have taken.

I am a dilligent worker who is motivated to a good job for your sake and my own. I love and respect all animals as beautiful iterations of the universe, although I am especially fond of cats. I play some guitar and I beatbox so it would be fun to jam around with someone too :)

I possess a little bit of french (reading/listening). I would very much like to improve my spoken french. I'm also interested in learning about Arabic and its various dialects and written forms and Portuguese because it is my favourite author's (Fernando Pessoa) mother tongue

Interpersonal skills:
I enjoy meeting new people, meeting them where they are and making them feel relaxed and at home. I have been a manager at a local pub for over a year now where I have learned a lot about communicating effectively, leadership, and task delegation.

Cooking:
I love to cook! I have done this for my family since I was 13 and it gives me great joy to see people enjoying a satisfying meal. My favourite ingredient is tomato!

Teaching:
I have some experience as a maths tutor. I completed a 120 hour TEFL course so I know about basic lesson planning and structure. I have limited experience teaching languages but I believe I have a strong foundation to build on.

Tech literate.:
I can troubleshoot/fix a wide range of everyday tech problems you might encounter using the internet or a PC.

What else ...

I have a special interest in electronic music in its many forms - anything that has rhythm, bounce, and funk. That can be hip hop, house, techno, drum and bass, tarraxinha - the style doesn't really matter to me. I DJ at pubs and clubs as a hobby and I am learning to make music using Ableton.

I also love to dance. It is my favourite way to express my joy and love for music, to meditate and return to the present, and to connect with other people. I hope to dance with as many people and to as many styles as I can during my travels.
