  • Description

Growing up on a US Midwest grain and cattle farm instilled in me a passion and enjoyment for vegetable, flower gardening and farming; a spirit of self sufficiency; preserving and sharing what I raised; an appreciation and sense of caring for the Good Earth and its' creatures; and finding solace in the outdoors.
Summer of 2017, I retired from my employment; sold my 15 acre hobby farm, which I had built up over the course of twenty years; and took an assignment with the Peace Corps. This placed me in a remote, primitive, small village in Senegal, West Africa where my assignment was Sustainable Agriculture. Upon completing one year with the Peace Corps, I returned to the States and am now enjoying visiting family and friends, meeting amazing people across the country, learning local and regional history of each area I visit, WWOOFing, Workaway, humanitarian and Earth friendly service projects and helping where my skills and interests match farms, peoples' and/or program needs. To date I am thankful to have had the opportunity to volunteer at farms in Alabama, Oregon, Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Colorado and Tennessee.
I am grateful for each day and opportunity to work with fellow Sojourners who value the Earth, our Journey, respect for each other, and building bridges through relationships.

  • More details about your skills

I have a wide variety of skills in the gardening, home/yard maintenance and animal husbandry fields. I have worked with cattle, horses, poultry, dogs and cats. I maintained a home, yard and farm for 20 years.
For over thirty years, I have had a large garden for personal use. I also raised an acre of squash, gourds and pumpkins for truck gardening and donating to children.
I am experienced in canning, freezing, and cold storage of vegetables and fruits. Being raised on a farm where we naturally practiced food self sufficiency; I milked cows by hand, raised chickens for eggs and meat and found great enjoyment in cooking, baking and doing anything outside.
Tree work included starting trees from seed, transplanting root stock, pruning, and early care for survival. I planted over 400 tree seedlings on my hobby farm. In Senegal, I grew mango, papaya and cashew trees from seed.
Along with my skills in the farming/gardening areas, I worked in an office setting as an Administrative Assistant at an elementary school for 12 years. All my employment, over the decades, involved working with individuals in many and varied situations, working with economically disadvantaged people, and programs which entailed high level organizational and program facilitation skills.
My life has always included staying active with my hands in the Earth! I enjoy trying and learning new things; am flexible, easy going, maintain a sense of humor and believe in life long learning.
